The HTC One max (yes, it's apparently *****ed with a lowercase "m") has been leaked on numerous occasions before, and the gadget in question appeared to have little-to-no secrets, despite the lack of an official announcement. Regardless, the One max is now official, so the time for rumors has come to an end.

The Taiwanese manufacturer has now lifted the veil on its first phablet, and calls it a "supersized" smartphone, for good reasons. While the One max speaks the same design language as the rest of the One family, the phablet measures 164.5 x 82.5 x 10.29 mm and weighs a whopping 217 grams.

Speaking of design, the HTC One max does look a lot like its smaller siblings (the One and One Mini), but it does bring forth new elements. For starters, the back cover is now removable, giving the user access to a microSD card slot and the SIM card. The battery itself, however, is still sealed and is not user-removable. However, at 3,300 mAh, the unit should provide enough juice to power up the device for a full day. The body has been built out of metal and the same dual-speaker BoomSound setup is to be found on the front panel.

The fingerprint scanner itself is also quite intriguing. It not only allows the user to unlock the smartphone by using one of his or her fingertips, but the scanner can also instantly open one of three favorite applications, depending on which finger is being scanned.

Inside, the HTC One max draws power from a Snapdragon 600 quad-core processor clocked at 1.7 GHz. While certain rumors were suggesting that this beast will feature a Snapdragon 800 CPU, that does not seem to be the case. Nevertheless, the SD 600 SoC is still a very powerful one, and can handle any application without breaking a sweat. Aside from the CPU, the One max also packs 2 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal storage expandable via microSD, an UltraPixel main camera with an f/2.0 aperture, and a secondary 2.1 MP front-facing sensor with a wide 88 degree viewing angle. Last but definitely not least, the max features a 5.9 inch Super LCD3 display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920 and a pixel density of 367 pixels per inch.

As far as the software goes, the One max runs on Android 4.3 out of the box, and introduces the new Sense 5.5 user interface. Version 5.5 includes a handful of sought-after improvements, such as the ability to disable BlinkFeed. More so, BlinkFeed has been greatly improved and now works with more than just Facebook. The system is now able to fold stories from Google+ and Instagram as well. The Gallery application has received massive improvements too, and Video Highlights can be as long as the user desires.

In terms of availability, the HTC One max is expected to go on sale in the UK by the end of this week. The device will expand its reaches on the global market, shortly after. As far as the release in the US goes, both Sprint and Verizon will get to retail the One max State-side, but they will do so in the holiday season.

Any thoughts regarding the HTC One max? Would anyone be interested in buying this beast? Do you consider the max to be an interesting alternative to the Samsung Galaxy Note 3? Feel free to leave a comment, and check out the official "First Look" video below.
