Cell Phone Reviews

The Motorola Moto X has been launched a few months ago in the US through all four major carriers, including T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T and Verizon. However, as most of you should know by now, Motorola has promised that the Moto X will be truly customizable, allowing you to pick more than just a color out of two, or three choices. These customization options were supposed to become available to prospective customers via a special website called the "Moto Maker". However, carrier-branded models haven't been able to benefit from the Moto Maker tool, and those of you who were planning on customizing the device while buying it on a contract have been left with no option, other than buying the device in a bland color, or wait for the customization tool to go live.

Fortunately, your patience has finally paid off, as the Moto Maker website is now live. Customers can personalize their Moto X devices and purchase them alongside a contract with one of the carriers, at the price of $99.99.

The customization options are plenty, and include 6 cool colors, 5 neutral colors (including woven white and black), and 7 warm colors for the back panel alone. The front panel only arrives in black or white however, but then again, there are 7 colors you can choose from for the accents, such as the physical buttons and the camera rim.

In addition, the Moto Maker website also allows you to engrave a signature (or rather text) on the back panel, as seen in the print screen above. You can also add a name or a greeting on the "Power on" screen, choose the default wallpaper, and sync with your Google account before you actually get your handset in the mail.

Motorola also puts a couple of clear protective cases at your disposal, and a handful of accessories such as a SOL Republic Tracks on-ear pair of headphones, or SOL Republic Jax in-ear buds. Of course, these accessories come at a price, except for the wall charger which is included in the package.

I should also point out that the wood finish is missing from the "Styling" list, and that the handset is available in both 16 and 32 GB of storage. The estimated delivery time is 4 days.

As a quick reminder, hardware-wise the Moto X features a 4.7 inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 720 x 1280 and a pixel density of 312 ppi, a modified Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor (Motoroloa X8 mobile computing system) clocked at 1.7 Ghz, an Adreno 320 graphics chip, 2 GB of RAM, a 10 MP main camera with LED flash, a 2 MP front-facing sensor, Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box (soon to be updated to Android 4.4 KitKat), and a 2,200 mAh battery.

Are any of you planning on buying the Moto X through the Moto Maker website? If so, check out the source link below, and enjoy playing around with all the customization options offered by Motorola.
