After the launch of the Nokia Lumia 1020, there have been quite a lot of rumors surrounding other Lumia devices that were expected to be revealed by the end of the year. In fact, earlier today Nokia has held an event in Abu Dhabi, where a handful of new devices have been unveiled, just as the rumors were suggesting. One of these handsets is of course the Lumia 1520, a smartphone that breaks new records in the Windows Phone mobile niche.

The Lumia 1520 is quite an interesting device, mainly because it delivers hardware specifications that have never been seen before on a WP smartphone. To begin with, the gadget packs a 6 inch display with a resolution of 1080 x 1920, and a pixel density of 367 ppi. This effectively makes the Lumia 1520 the first Nokia and Windows Phone-powered phablet in the world.

Additionally, the handset is also the first WP device to pack a quad-core processor. The CPU is not a dud either, as the 1520 packs the top-tier Snapdragon 800 SoC running at a frequency of 2.2 GHz. There are also 2 GB of RAM on board, and since we're looking at a Snapdragon 800 chip, the 1520 is 4G/LTE enabled. Furthermore, the handset in question features a 3,400 mAh battery that promises up to 25 hours of talk time, or 11 hours of video playback.

The gadget runs on Windows Phone 8.1, and due to the fact that it packs a 6 inch display, the UI - or the Start screen to be more precise - now supports an extra row of tiles.

Last but not least, the Lumia 1520 arrives with a powerful 20.7 MP camera boasting improved Panorama, Optical Image Stabilization and Carl Zeiss lens. The sensor itself is a scaled down version of the 41 MP camera found on the Lumia 1020, and features 2x lossless zoom in stills mode, as well as 4x zoom in HD video recording. The handset also delivers four HAAC microphones, which tremendously increase the quality of audio recordings.

In terms of design, the Lumia 1520 measures 162.8 x 85.4 x 8.7 mm and weighs 209 grams. The extra weight is a result of both a larger screen, as well as the wireless charging coil that resides underneath the back panel. The case has been built out of polycarbonate, and the back panel will be offered in four colors, including black, white, red or yellow.

As for availability and pricing, the WP phablet will go on sale sometime next month. In the US, the device is expected to hit AT&T's shelves at first. While the on-contract prices have not been confirmed yet, the 6 inch beast is expected to go on sale, off-contract, at the price of $749.
