Hi all,
Next week I am leaving for Europe and I will be there for two weeks. I currently have the Verizon Wireless Droid which I know will not work out there. Someone recommend I get a pre paid phone here I think and then buy a SIM card out there with minutes. It would be used only in an emergency to call home, and maybe call or text a friend with me that is in Europe to find where they are or where to meet. So I was essentially wondering what are my options, and where can I buy the pre paid phones and SIM cards? Thanks for all of your help ahead of time, I really appreciate it!

Re: Travelling to Europe, need a phone
I am in germany and. I have a verizon blackberry tour. Being on the internet and sending IMs on bbm and aim is free, but texting and calling costs a fortune.. Because I have a phoenix arizona phone number.. I would suggest just getting a euro prepaid phone. Or calling verizon to tell them to activate global capabilities if the droid can do that

I know the Droid can't do global capabilities, and where is the best place to pick up a euro prepaid phone? In the airport or in the city?
I have some friends that have some old ATT phones lying around, if I took out their SIM card and put in one I purchased with minutes, would that work?

Re: Travelling to Europe, need a phone
I got the best of both Worlds by using a EuroBuzz cell phone for Europe. It isn't pre-paid but it was a flat rate and doesn't incur monthly bills or contracts either. Best of both worlds for me as topping up in some of the countries I go to was a major pain.
