i have sony's phone the t610 or something like, its black on top with a silver keypad and lower half, built in camera, fun stuff. i am currently in north america, where this phone works like a charm. i am soon to be heading abroad, namely, japan. will my phone work in japan, does japan operate on the same cell phones freqs as the united states?
someone told me that japan is special and has their own proprietary system. any way to adapt my phone to work wiht japans system? if not whats some recomendations on a good parrallel phone that will work in japan.
any information would be greatly appreciated.

Frankly, there is no way it will work there.
They use WCDMA and not GSM.
You can rent a GSM/WCDMA phone from DoCoMo at Narita or Kansai Airport.
And if you have Int, Roaming, you put your sim card in the rental and it works.

You have to rent a DoCoMo Handset to make it work at either one of the airports.
