I think this is a general question, not just for the Motorola forum where I also asked the question...
I have 2 recently unlocked (got subsidy codes from T-mobile, thanks to advice from this forum) Motorola V600 phones. I will be working in China in a few days and plan to buy China Mobile SIM cards and call time in the Beijing airport and use my own phones for the first time in China.
These are US phones however and China uses a different voltage. I do have the good old travel adaptors, but they say only to use them with heat producing appliances-not for use with computers or digital equipment etc.
Any suggestions how to safely charge my phone batteries without frying the phones? I expect plenty of people who read this site are experts on this subject. HELP!! Thanks

do you have access to a computer w/ usb?

try something like this, if you don't have it already:

    have cable-now what?

I do already have the cable to connect the V600 to a computer-it came with Mobile Phone Tools, which I use to download photos from the phone to the computer. Are you saying there is a way to charge the phone through a computer when the two are connected? Sorry to be dense here-I am not hugely tech-saavy!

if you look at the amazon link, you'll see it has a charger function under the features.

better yet, if you have one, plug it in and see if it starts charging.

    nope

OK-I connected the phone with the cable I have and nothing happens-looks like my cable does not have a charging function. I did order the one off of Amazon, but we leave for China on Sunday and it will not get here by then. Any other suggestions?

only other suggestion is to check the airport. they sell some "emergency" battery packs for cell phones, mp3 players, etc. i was just talking to a coworker from canada who saw them in o'hare. that might be an option for you, given they have one for your phone model.

    no safe adapter?

Is there no way to safely use a voltage adapter then? It just seems like there has to be some fairly simple way to charge a phone, with the millions of people using phones in China (some of which are not Chinese phones!)

Here is a Blog that talks about the three standards for electrical plugs in China.
    http://www.tongfamily.com/travel/chi...r_adapters.php

Also you can use Google and type in Power Adapters for China.

I found this one from Targus, that should fit your needs.
    http://www.targus.com/us/product_det...sp?sku=APK01US

So it looks for the most part from the Blog anyway, it's going to depend on where you will be staying, for the type of power adapter you'll need.

Perhaps you can rent a transformer?
