According to their phone messaging system, the best way to file a claim is with their web site service. Well, I dutifully went to their website and answered all of their questions. Then I got to a text field to enter what the problem actually is. I enter it is locking up and in-order to get it to work I have to either re-boot it (I have a pocket pc) or remove the battery and put it back in. After I submitted the text response it did the please wait processing thing for like 15 seconds then proceeded to tell me my claim was denied. NOBODY even reviewed my problem it was just simply denied. I am wondering if the website just simply denies all claims.
Then I go to review the insurance pamphlet Now, according pamphlet this is the list of things they do not cover: Wear, Deterioration, Laten Defect, Electrical and Mechanical Breakdown, Cosmetic Damage or anything that would be covered under warranty. The cover says Wireless Phone Protection from Loss Theft Damage. What damage is covered then exactly??? I feel this is misleading because they say on the cover damage is covered then proceed to exclude all damages that could happen. As far as I can tell my phone would only be covered if it were lost or stolen.
Some other reviews have *****ed out exactly how much this plan costs. I have had the insurance plan for 4 years that comes out to $240 in monthly charges, at $5.00 a month. Add the $50 for replacement assuming they actually covered anything decides loss or theft. We definitely would have been better off going without and simply purchasing a new phone. Or adding to our contract to get a new free phone. The $240 spent on the insurance would have covered the cost of purchasing a new phone without having to extend our contract.
So I enter this so as to warn others not to waist their money or time on this insurance, unless you think you are risk of having your phone stolen or loosing it.

Re: Asurion Cell Phone Insurance is a Rip Off!

I agree. My samsung screen went blank. I sent it back and for $40 they sent a new (refurbished) one to the wrong address. Then after I drove to pick it up it did not work either. I sent it back, but had to give them my credit card info and drive to a T mobile store for a loaner because I would have 2 phones in transit at the same time. The third one I got worked, but the charger port was stiff. After a month it stopped working. I called from a store (after they figured out it was the phone and not me or the charger.) Asurion said that I would have to pay another deductible because it did not break in 1 week and so it was mechanical and they dont cover it. Give me a break! The girl in the store got on the phone and explained what she saw, I also talked to the manager who could of cared less. Her reply was that i could send it back and if it was mechanical they would charge me 100 for the repalcement. The thing is that eventually no one will buy their insurance from ASSurion because it is a rip off and they will be SOL. I personally will go on every site I can and tell everyone I know how they REALLY work. Being jerks only works so long and then you lose. I hope everyone that participates in their scam gets it back 3 fold from a rip off credit card company caue that is exactly what they deserve.

Re: Asurion Cell Phone Insurance is a Rip Off!

I have been your customer for over three years and have paid monthly for insurance through Asurion.

In October 2008, I filed a claim with your company and promptly received a replacement phone. I was very satisfied with the level of service and speed. However; after three months, my replacement phone is damaged with the same problem as my original phone (I can only hear
a call using the speaker on my phone).

I called Asurion today, January 28, 2009, to report this damage and was informed I would need to return my phone and wait a period of 5-7 days for it to be fixed. I do not understand why Asurion does not ship me a new phone so that I am not left without a phone for such a long period of time.

Due to this level of service, I have decided to cancel my monthly insurance

I am very unhappy and dissatisfied with Asurion

I do not recommend this company insurance.

Re: Asurion cell phone insurance review!
Asurion claimed to change my deductible by notifying me and also said that my move in December of 08 may be the reason I did not receive the notice.

    1. I had a forwarding notice in with post office to receive any notices and
    2. after December 08 I received a card from sprint re-iterating my contract for a $50.00 deductible. This is what I have in writing.

    3. I also have concerns about an insurance company that writes a contract, and after collecting a year of monthly premium payments, they decide to raise the deductible and presumably notify the customer and tell you that your deductible went up and you can keep paying the monthly premiums but now have a higher deductible or what?

    2. cancel the contract and loose the payments made for the previous year ?

    This is a calculated scam.

Asurion has until July 8 09 to refund my premiums paid. Alternatively I will be taking court action against this company. Asurion needs to provide me with their “Agent of Service address in California”.

    June 8, 2009

I just got off the phone with your representative in the CEO office. I have been trying to contact your company over the phone for over 2 hours now to file a lost phone claim.

My first attempt was Saturday June 6, 2009 on line. I spent many valuable minutes filling out your on line claim questionnaire only to be advised at the end that my deductible was $100.00.

My contract calls for a $50.00 deductible on my Sprint Mogul phone with monthly payments of
    $7.00 a month.

I also have a policy with you on my daughters phone which is also $7.00 a month for a total monthly premium of $14.00 a month.

When I called your 1 800 584 3666 number this morning it asked me to punch numbers in. I punched the numbers in many times to only have the computer tell me the numbers were wrong an then hung up on me. I called Sprint and advised them of my inability to reach you. They put me on hold for over a minute until they reached a live person with your company which was " Terry".

Terry advised me that the deductible went up in April to $100.00 and that many notices were sent to me. I asked to speak to a supervisor, I was put on hold again for a lengthy time and then given to " Angie". Angie suggested I ask Sprint for a $50.00 refund. After rehashing the incident with Angie she advised me that because of what I said I was being transferred to the CEO office and if no one answered to "leave a message".

Your company obviously has a policy of "phone - policy claim deterrence", in other words, make it as hard as possible to reach and speak to some one to file a claim. Your company also has a policy of raising deductibles with out notice to its customers.

The original contract agreed upon by the parties. I agreed to a $50.00 deductible and q $7.00 a month premium. I did not agree to have my deductible raised, ever, or to be harassed with a claim policy deterrent system.

You are running a SCAM operation.

I am cancelling my policies with you and my account with Sprint due to your lack of contract adherence.

Immediately refund all my policy premiums, a total of $ 140.00, for both phones with in 30 days. Failure to do will result in small claims action against your company.

I have just completed an internet search on your company and found numerous fraud compalints regartding your buisness practices!

    Case #: 37057364

    Dear Mr. Brady:

In reference to your compliant with the Better Business Bureau, I would like to offer my apology that your experience with Asurion did not meet your expectations.

The Total Equipment Protection program provides insurance on wireless mobile phones and certain phone accessories to the customers of Sprint PCS. The program is administrated by Asurion Protection Services, LLC and underwritten by Continental Casualty Company (a CNA member company). Under the terms of the program, if a subscriber's wireless phone is lost, stolen or damaged, the subscriber may make a claim by calling Asurion's toll-free telephone number or online at
On June 10, 2009 you initiated an insurance claim was for a lost cellular phone.

The claim indicates that you were transferred to a representative from the Office of the CEO when you stated you were unaware of the deductible having been changed to $100.00. Our representative advised you that a letter was mailed to you in January or February.

According to our records you were mailed two notifications advising you of the change to the policy. The notifications were for cellular phone numbers ending in 3770 and 4764. Our records indicate that they were sent to the address listed above on February 28, 2009.

Included in the mailing was a copy of the Coverage Certificate. The Coverage Certificate states:

(VIII.Additional Conditions.O.) ''We retain the right to revise this Certificate at any time and adjust the coverage terms including the premium and the deductible. In the event of any material change in the coverage terms premium or the deductible, you will be provided advance written notice of such changes. You may cancel coverage at any time without penalty, but if you continue to pay premiums after a change in premiums, coverage terms or the deductible, you will be bound by those changes.''

The changes to the program were to allow those that have low end phones to keep a low premium and not experience a premium or deductible increase for phones that retail three and four times the amount of a low end phone. Thus everyone has a deductible that is applicable to the retail amount of their wireless device.

We apologize, but we are unable to refund you for the premiums you have paid.

I will be glad to assist you with the completion of your claim if you are interested in paying the required $100.00 deductible.

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

    Sincerely,

Re: Asurion Cell Phone Insurance is a Rip Off!

Yes I must agree, paid $100 for my son's phone because it was an upgrade, I got it cheaper. At the verizon store the agent asked did I want to continue the Asurion insurance, I debated and he reminded me it would be only $50 to replace the phone if needed, that was 3 months ago. I called to make a claim and was told it would be $89 because we had upgraded to a pda phone. This long story short is that if your like most people and get your phones because of an upgrade a good price and that price is not over $200, between paying $6 a month ($72 a year) and the replacement cost to Asurion being $89 totally $161 in one year. So at the 1st year mark you at $161, if it needs to be replaced, you could pay for the darn thing yourself, in fact in my case with just the $89 and a few months insurance fee, I could of just bought he kid another phone and would not have been on the phone with these companies for an hour today. I am convinced my husband is right, that Consumer Reports says buy no insurance for any product.VERY IMPORTANT I MENTION VERIZON OFFERED ME A 10% ON MY BILL FOR 6 MONTHS WHICH WILL COVER THIS DIFFERENCE OF THE $89 I HAD TO PAY ASURION, FROM THE $50 I WAS TOLD I WOULD HAVE TO PAY.(4 phone calls later)

    Quit Complaining!!

I think that all of the complaints in the past posts are just stupid! Insurance is insurance! Your car insurance is the same thing, monthly payments and a deb. to help cover the cost of the phone. Also all of the phone companies and everything send out reman. phones for warrenty replacements. If we didn't you would be paying much more for the insurance. Also as far as you saying that nothing is covered but loss or stolen phones is dumb! You would also complain more if your phone was covered under the warrenty and we made you pay for it anyway. You people need to start reading the info that you are given and stop thinking that you can get what ever you want for free!

Insurance is insurance, this is a scam! The phone I have can be purchased for $100 new, $50 used (the price of my "deductible")

The way I see it, these guys are not an insurance company, they are a repair shop that is SELLING the damaged phones that customers HAVE to send back to them! They call the selling price a "deductible". No different than a direct marketing list being sold by a magazine, except the customer is paying $5/mo for the listing!

I would assume that the manufacturers of these phone would be upset because they're the ones getting a bad reputation when these refurbed phones don't perform! Mine is already freezing up on me after one day of use!

My main beef is with AT&T for false statements by salesperson. We were clearly & concisely told at AT&T store "there is NO deductible" and "you get a NEW phone".

Luckily I only paid for this "insurance" for a month. That at least saved me money on shipping!

Shouldn't they know what kind of phone they so called insured for you? They dont know, the customer service rep knew nothing about our phones, I asked her and another SO CALLED REP, They had no answer. My car insurance company knows what kind of car I drive and what to replace it with due to any" accidents", Shouldn't all insurance companies know that kind of information? PS they say they send the customer a" welcome letter" (after you sign on), detailing the costs etc. But I guess all the 200 complaints are just blowing smoke, sorry if you dont agree, we all seem to agree on this SCAM!

I would have to agree with you. Last December we upgraded my wifes phone and of course we purchased insurance. She dropped the phone and slightly cracked the plastic surface causing the phone to be inoperable. The Azurion insurance wants $50 to replace or fix the phone. So what do we pay $5.00/mo for? We're just throwing our $ away. Locked into a 2 year contract we're paying 4 a dead horse for the next 18 months. I donated the 3 month old phone in front of the rep and removed the insurance. Told her that when our contracts are up we switch providers on the 3 phones. Thats over $2800/year....not a smart move or policy on Verizons part. Been there for 25 years. Over $50......I just will not pay it on principle. I encourage others to totally boycott the insurance programs any of the providers charge and switch providers if they don't replace the phone. Re: Asurion Cell Phone Insurance is a Rip Off!

Do you no what Insurance is? Do you know what Warranty is? Insurance covers the accidental loss, theft, liquid, or physical damage of your phone. It does not cover Manufacturer's Defects, Malfunction, Intentional Acts, or normal wear and tear since all material goods have a standard life and wear out eventually. It also doesn't cover you for downloading a virus onto your phone, of if you corrupt your software, as these are user actions.

Now - if you accidentally drop your phone and break it - you're covered. If you dog chews it, covered. Drop it in the sink - again, covered. Lose it, have it stolen? Covered.

Read your Terms people - educate yourselves about what you're buying, and what its purpose is - don't make assumptions, and don't blame/badmouth the company because you didn't bother to learn. The coverage information for every program that Asurion, the Signal, Cell-Pro, etc. offer is easily available on-line if you didn't get the brochure, or simply by calling and asking.

99% of complaints are because consumers didn't bother to educate themselves and just said "sure, sign me up". That's not the company's fault - that's your own.

Re: Asurion Cell Phone Insurance is a Rip Off!

I purchased this insurance recently for the first time to cover an iPhone 4. This phone was stolen yesterday. I raced around getting all the documentation that they needed and got it submitted before the daily deadline of 4 PM. I did talk with someone once to be sure I was including everything necessary, and I was assured that if it can in on time, filled out completely and correctly, they would be able to ship me a new phone today. Today I got the follow up email that indicated that my phone (iphone 4 in white) was out of stock. I was directed to call the company to make further arrangements. I spoke with the first person only to be told that it was backordered. I asked about other iPhones or other colors. All were back ordered. I then asked to talk with a supervisor to get some idea of the timing of the backorder. She indicated that it would be up to 7 days before they even got any new iPhones, and then she could not tell me where I was in the list of people waiting for them. I am currently going in and out of town tending to an ailing mother at the end of her life. I can't predict where I'll be in a week, and I need the phone to keep up with work as I'm traveling. I asked for a refund, and the agent insisted no refunds were possible. Reading the terms after I got off the phone made it clear that you could indeed get a refund. I will be pursuing that, and I will simply go to my AT&T store and buy another iPhone 4. They have them in stock!

Re: Asurion Cell Phone Insurance is a Rip Off

I had the same problem with Asurion. I tried 3 times to place a simple claim for a lost phone and each time they denied it right away without even speaking to me. They denied it because the phone that I was currently using was not the phone on my claim. That should be a no-brainer. I explained that because my sidekick was lost I was currently using my junk drawer phone. Then when I tried to file a claim again the following week they said that the time period to file a claim had passed and I could no longer file a claim. Asurion just LOOKS for reasons to deny your claim and I am really irritated with T-Mobile for recommending them. When I informed T-Mobile that I no longer wanted the insurance they then had the nerve to tell me that I would no longer be covered and if my phone was lost I wouldn't be able to get a new one...blah, blah, blah. Asurion is a rip-off and T-mobile is a jerk for vetting a rip-off company like Asurion to their customers.

Re: Asurion Cell Phone Insurance is a Rip Off!

Lost- if your phone is unintentionally lost (forgetting it on top of your car, lost it quading)

Stolen- if your phone was stolen from a personal concealed area (ex: purse, locker, car, home) basically as long as you dont leave it in a public area unattended (called intentional parting or leaving it in a public area unattended)

LEAVING IT ON A TABLE IN A RESTURANT WHILE GOING TO THE BATHROOM IS INTENTIONAL PARTING (NOT COVERED) unless you have someone watch the phone for you, because that is not leaving it in a public area unattended.

Damaged- if there is PHYSICAL damage to the phone (drops, breakage, cracks, etc...) you're covered as long as there is an incident for the damage (breaking it, washing it in the washer, dropping it in the toilet, running it over ON ACCIDENT, your kid threw it, your cheating wife stomped on it etc...

Warranty- every new phone you buy comes with a standard one year warranty, basically if the phone has no damage and has never been dropped or anything that could have caused damage, and its just not working, that is warranty. The manufacturer will cover this for little to no cost to you. ANY DAMAGE TO THE PHONE VOIDS THE WARRANTY. the phone is also inspected for damage, so if you know you have dropped it, they are most likley going to ship it back and tell you its broken, to file an insurance claim. Remember I said there has to be an incident to cause the damage.

If you ever call and say your stuff is broken and you dont know what happened to it, it will not be covered. Remember to report the damage within 60 days of the incident. The sooner the better. Most of all, when you buy insurance, learn what you are paying for. You cant get mad at insurance companies because you were ignorant and did not learn what you are covered for, in other words paying for something and not know what you are paying for.

P.S. Always call to update credit card info and address. If you have questions always call before you file a claim and you can ask whats covered and they will tell you. Call back later and file the claim. Also, store reps tell people to lie all the time, its funny because those claims get rejected all the time, the store reps usually do not know what they are talking about.
