Still think your government is looking out for you, think again. It's now illegal to unlock your own phone. Jail time and or fines ....nice . Keep voting for those idiots , you get what you deserve.

Re: unlock your phone-go to jail
Considering that the subsidized.phones are 77% of the market id say it's an important issue.More people should try prepaid plans now that most carriers offer better phones, i'd rather pay more upfront and have cheaper monthly bills ie 30$ for my plan

Re: unlock your phone-go to jail
I honestly think this is a good idea. Phone providers have a right to decide how their phones are used, and jail-breaking violates that right. The laws have trouble keeping up with the technological arena today, but I think that they have done a good job here. I'm sure they will update it if they feel it is needed over time.

Re: unlock your phone-go to jail
I think part of that is the provision that once the contract is up, they have to unlock it if you ask too. Before, it was just an optional action on their part. The carriers were having trouble with people getting a phone inexpensively under a contract, then never fulfilling the contract & skipping out with the phone. The contract subsidizes the actual cost of the phone... why buying an unlocked phone straight up is expensive.
