Enabling Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Tap "Apps" while viewing the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Scroll to "Personal" and tap "Location"
  4. Tap "Mode" and select "Battery saving"

NOTE: "High accuracy" uses GPS, Wi-Fi and mobile networks to estimate location, whereas "Device only" uses GPS. "Battery saving" mode uses only Wi-Fi and the mobile network

Adjusting the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Open the apps drawer and go to "Settings"
  2. Tap "Display"
  3. Tap "Brightness" and adjust the slider for a lower brightness level
  4. Tap "Sleep" and select a lower timeout duration
  5. Press "OK"

Disabling Wi-Fi, Hotspot, GPS and Bluetooth:

NOTE: Your smartphone's connectivity features can have a big effect on your phone's battery performance, reason why it's always recommended to keep these features disabled whenever they are not in use. To disable them:

  1. Swipe the "Notification" bar down while on the home screen
  2. Tap the "Quick settings" icon located in the upper-right corner
  3. Tap the icons next to "Wi-Fi", "Bluetooth", "GPS" and "Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot"
  4. Tap the icons to disable these features

Changing the Sync Settings for Applications:

  1. While viewing the home screen, tap "All apps"
  2. Tap "Settings" and scroll to "Accounts"
  3. Tap the account you wish to change the sync settings to
  4. Touch the green "Sync" icon
  5. Select the desired sync options

Disabling Background Data:

  1. Tap "All Apps" and go to "Settings"
  2. Tap "Mobile networks"
  3. Tap "Always-on mobile data" and disable the feature

Minimizing the Use of Third Party Apps:

NOTE: Although you may not use certain third party apps that you have installed on your phone, these apps can still affect your phone's battery life, assuming that they run processes in the background. As such, it's recommended that you disable or remove unused apps:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Swipe to "Device" and tap "Apps"
  4. Swipe to the "Downloaded" screen
  5. Select the desired app
  6. Tap "Disable" if available. Otherwise, tap "Uninstall" > "OK"

Switching from 4G Connectivity to 2G:

  1. Go to the phone's "Settings" menu
  2. Tap "Mobile networks" > "Preferred network type"
  3. Select "2G only"
  4. To return to 4G connectivity, tap "LTE on (Automatic LTE/4G/3G/2G)"

Keeping Your Smartphone Updated:

NOTE: New software updates sometimes include fixes and / or improvements to battery life. As such, it's highly recommended that you keep your smartphone up to date. To check for updates:

  1. Tap "All apps" while on the home screen
  2. Go to "Settings" and swipe to "System"
  3. Tap "About phone" > "Additional system updates"
  4. Tap "Software update" > "Check now"

NOTE: if no new software updates are available, then following the steps above will have no effect on your phone's battery performance.
