WARNING! Factory resetting your phone will remove all personal data stored on the internal memory, including applications, downloaded content, ringtones, contacts etc. Furthermore, all of your settings will be restored to factory values.

NOTE: Before proceeding, you can visit this thread to learn how you can back up & restore data on the ZTE ZMAX 2, as well as enabling / disabling Anti-Theft.

Factory Reset via Settings:

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Backup & reset”
  4. Tap “Factory data reset”
  5. Enter your password / PIN / pattern if necessary
  6. Tap “Reset phone” and wait for the process to complete
  7. If necessary, reboot your phone at the prompt

Factory Reset via Recovery:

NOTE: In case you are unable to reset the phone via Settings as explained above, you might be able to reset it from the Recovery menu instead. To access the Recovery menu:

  1. Turn off the phone
  2. Press and hold “Power”
  3. After a couple of seconds, press and hold “Volume Up” as well
  4. When the “Select Boot Mode” prompt appears, release all hardware buttons
  5. Make sure that “Recovery Mode” is enabled and tap “Volume Up” to select
  6. Once the phone displays an Android robot along with a yellow triangle, press “Volume Up” and “Power” simultaneously
  7. You should now have access to the Recovery menu
  8. Press “Volume down” to navigate to and highlight “Wipe data / factory reset”
  9. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option and reset the phone
