Clear App Cache / Data:

NOTE: If one of your applications crashes, freezes, takes too much space inexplicably or is otherwise unresponsive, you can try fixing these problems by clearing the app’s cache / data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all personal data stored within the app, including login and credit card information, profiles, high scores, settings etc. will be lost. To avoid losing data, clear only the app’s cache.

  1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
  2. Open “Settings”
  3. Tap “Apps”
  4. Swipe to “Downloaded” or “All”
  5. Select the desired app
  6. Tap “Clear cache” > “OK”
  7. If necessary, tap “Clear data” > “OK”

Clear the Cache Partition:

NOTE: In case your phone doesn’t work properly and you’re considering master resetting it, you can try clearing the phone’s cache partition instead. This can yield similar results as a factory reset, without losing any of your personal data stored on the device’s internal memory.

  1. First, turn off the phone
  2. Next, press and hold “Volume Up” and “Power” at the same time
  3. When the screen turns on, release “Power”
  4. Wait for the Android System Recovery menu to appear
  5. From the menu, navigate using “Volume down” and highlight “Wipe cache partition”
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. Press “Volume down” to navigate “Yes – erase all user data”
  8. Press “Power” to confirm

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t solve the problems, you can visit this thread for instructions on how you can factory reset the device instead.

Reboot in Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:

NOTE: If you have installed a third party app on your device that causes issues and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to remove the app from within Safe Mode. In Safe Mode, all third party apps are disabled by default. To reboot in Safe Mode:

  1. Wake the screen if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Power”
  3. From the power management dialogue box, tap and hold “Power off”
  4. Tap “OK” to confirm and reboot your phone in Safe Mode (once done, you should see a “Safe Mode” watermark in the lower-left corner of the screen)
  5. To uninstall an app, open the apps drawer and go to “Settings”
  6. Tap “Apps” and swipe to “Downloaded”
  7. Select the desired app and tap “Uninstall”
  8. Tap “OK” to confirm
  9. To exit safe mode, press and hold “Power” and then tap “Power” to restart your device as you normally would
