Turn On Battery Saving Mode:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Battery > Menu
- Enable Battery saver
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By turning Off Wi-Fi, Hotspot, GPS, and Bluetooth when not in use, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Tap the Location, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi to disable these features
- For more GPS (Location) options, open Settings
- Next, tap Location > Mode and enable Battery saving
- To turn off Wi-Fi Hotspot, go back to Settings
- Then tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and set the switch to OFF
Switch to 2G Networks:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Under Wireless & Networks, tap More
- Tap Mobile networks
- Tap Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Drag the Brightness slider towards the left side of the screen to decrease brightness
- Next, open Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Display
- Optionally, turn Automatic brightness ON or OFF
- For timeout options, tap Sleep and select a lower value
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By changing the sync settings of your apps / accounts to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Personal and tap Accounts
- Tap an account and change the desired sync settings to reduce sync
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes, and thus they can potentially affect battery life even when not actively in use. By turning off or removing unused third party applications, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Apps
- Make sure All Apps is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired app
- Tap Force Stop to disable the app, or alternatively, tap Uninstall to remove the app from the phone
NOTE: An alternative method to uninstalling apps is to open the apps drawer and then dragging and dropping the apps shortcut on top of the Uninstall section at the top.
Keep the Software Updated:
NOTE: OS updates can include battery life improvements, and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check if new updates are available:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Check if a new update is available. If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply any available updates (NOTE: This process will require a reboot)
