Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Battery > Menu and enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Drag the Brightness slider towards the left side to decrease brightness
- Open Settings for more options
- Then scroll to Device and tap Display
- Optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- Tap Sleep and select a lower timeout value such as 30 seconds
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By turning Off Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth and GPS when not in use, you can improve battery life in the long run. To do this:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Location and Bluetooth tiles to turn these features OFF
- For additional GPS options, open Settings and tap Location
- Then, tap Mode and select Battery saving
- To disable Hotspot, return to Settings
- Then, tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and set the switch OFF to disable the feature
Switch to 2G Networks:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Go to Settings
- Tap more under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks > Preferred network type
- Select 2G
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By reducing the amount of data synced by your apps / accounts, you might improve battery life in the long run. To do this:
- Access Settings
- Scroll to Personal
- Tap Accounts and select an account
- Disable the desired (available) sync options
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third party applications perform regular background processes, and thus they can technically affect battery life even when not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Apps and ensure All Apps is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired application
- Tap Force Stop to disable the app, or tap Uninstall to remove the app from the phone
NOTE: Another method you can use for uninstalling apps is to open the apps drawer, and then dragging and dropping the desired apps shortcut over the Uninstall section at the top of the screen (visible when dragging app shortcuts).
Keep the OS updated:
NOTE: OS updates can include battery life improvements, and its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for OS updates:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates and check if a new update is available for download
- If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply the update. NOTE: this process will require at least one reboot
