Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Device”
  4. Tap “Battery” > “Menu”
  5. Enable “Battery saver”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left side of the screen to decrease brightens
  3. Open “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  4. Tap “Display” and optionally, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
  5. Tap “Sleep” and select a lower timeout value

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By disabling your phone’s connectivity features when they are not in use – including Wi-Fi, GPS, Hotspot, and Bluetooth – you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. From the home screen, use two fingers to swipe the “Status” bar down
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Location” and “Bluetooth” quick toggles to disable these features
  3. Launch “Settings”
  4. For more GPS options, tap “Location” > “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
  5. For Hotspot options, return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  6. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and set the feature’s switch OFF

Use 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: In case your device runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Under “Wireless & Networks”, tap “More”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks”
  4. Go to “Preferred network type” and enable “2G”

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Certain third party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect battery life even when not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party applications, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Apps”
  3. Ensure “All Apps” is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
  4. Select the desired application
  5. To disable the app, tap “Force Stop”
  6. To remove the app, tap “Uninstall”

NOTE: You can also remove an app by dragging its shortcut from the apps drawer and dropping it onto the “Uninstall” section at the top of the screen.

Change Sync Settings to Reduce Sync:

NOTE: By changing your apps/accounts’ sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Personal”
  4. Tap “Accounts” and select an existing account
  5. Disable the desired sync options

Keep the OS Up to Date:

NOTE: OS updates can include improvements to battery life and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for OS updates:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates”
  4. Check if a new update is available and if applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install it (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
