Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Tap Apps on the home screen
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Battery
- Tap Menu and enable Battery saver
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By disabling your phones connectivity features when they are not in use, such as Wi-Fi, GPS, Hotspot, and Bluetooth, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Tap the Bluetooth, Wi-Fi and Location tiles to disable these features
- Go to Settings
- For GPS options, tap Location
- Tap Mode and enable Battery saving
- For Hotspot options, return to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and set the switch OFF
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by switching to 2G networks.
- Launch Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks > Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease screen luminosity
- Launch Settings for additional options
- Scroll to Device and tap Display
- Optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- For timeout settings, tap Sleep and select a lower value
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes and thus they can potentially affect battery life even when not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps from your phone, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Apps and make sure All Apps is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired app
- To turn the app off, tap Force Stop / Disable
- To remove the app, tap Uninstall
NOTE: Another method of removing an app is by dragging and dropping its shortcut from the apps drawer and over the Uninstall section at the top (visible only when dragging app shortcuts)
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By changing your accounts / apps sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Personal
- Tap Accounts and select an existing account
- Disable the desired sync options to reduce sync
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for OS updates:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Verify if a new OS version is available and, if applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install it (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
