Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Tap “Battery” under “Device”
  4. Tap “Menu” and enable “Battery saver”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
  3. Open “Settings” for additional options
  4. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Display”
  5. Optionally, turn “Adaptive brightness” On or Off
  6. Tap “Sleep” and select a lower timeout value

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes, which can potentially affect battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party applications, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Apps”
  4. Make sure “All Apps” is selected in the drop-down menu
  5. Select the desired application
  6. To turn the app Off, tap “Force Stop” / “Disable”
  7. To remove the app from the phone, tap “Uninstall”

NOTE: A different method to remove an app is to open the apps drawer and then drag and drop the app’s shortcut over the “Uninstall” section at the top (this option is visible only when dragging app shortcuts)

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: By disabling your phone’s connectivity options when they are not in use – such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and Hotspot – you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Location” and “Bluetooth” quick toggles to disable the features
  3. For GPS options, go to “Settings” and tap “Location”
  4. Tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
  5. To turn Hotspot Off, return to “Settings”
  6. Then tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  7. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and set the switch Off

Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Under “Wireless & Networks”, tap “More”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks”
  4. Go to “preferred network type” and enable “2G”

Change Settings to Reduce Sync:

NOTE: By changing your accounts’ sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Personal”
  3. Tap “Accounts” and select the desired account type
  4. Select an account and change the desired sync options to reduce sync

Keep the OS Up To Date:

NOTE: OS updates can include battery life improvements, and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for OS updates:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates” and check if new updates are available for download
  4. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply available updates. NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot
