Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Battery
- Tap Menu > Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Display and turn Adaptive brightness On or Off
- Tap Sleep and select a lower value like 15 seconds
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: By disabling the phones connectivity features when unused, including Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Location and Bluetooth quick toggles to turn the features Off
- Launch Settings
- Tap Location for GPS options, tap Mode and select Battery saving
- To disable hotspot, go back to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and disable the option
Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:
NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks. To do this:
- Open Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks
- Tap Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect battery life even when they are not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Apps
- Select All apps from the drop-down menu if necessary
- Select the desired application
- Tap Force Stop to disable the app
- Alternatively, tap Uninstall to remove the app from the phone
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: By changing your accounts sync settings to reduce sync, you might improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Personal
- Tap Accounts
- Select an account and disable the desired sync options
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: OS updates can include improvements to battery life, and thus its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Check if a new update is available for download
- If available, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update(s) (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
