Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Battery” > “Menu”
  4. Enable “Battery saver”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. On the home screen, swipe the status bar down
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
  3. Open “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  4. Tap “Display” and optionally, enable or disable “adaptive brightness”
  5. Tap “Sleep” and select a lower timeout value like “15 seconds”

Disable Unused Connectivity Options:

NOTE: By disabling the phone’s connectivity features when unused, including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Hotspot, and GPS, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. On the home screen swipe the status bar down
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Location” (GPS) and “Bluetooth” quick toggles to turn the features off
  3. Open “Settings” and tap “Location” for additional GPS options
  4. Tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
  5. For hotspot options, return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & networks”
  6. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and disable the feature

Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks”
  4. Go to “Preferred network type” and enable “2G”

Reduce Sync:

NOTE: By changing your accounts’ settings to reduce sync, you might improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Personal”
  3. Tap “Accounts”
  4. Select the desired account type and account
  5. Change the account’s sync settings to reduce sync

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Certain third party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect the phone’s battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Tap “Apps” under “Device”
  3. Make sure “All apps” is selected from the drop-down menu
  4. Tap the desired app
  5. Tap “Force Stop” / “Disable” to disable the app, or:
  6. Tap “Uninstall” to remove the app from the phone

Keep the OS Updated:

NOTE: OS updates can include battery life improvements and as such it’s recommended to keep the OS updated at all times. To check for new updates:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates”
  4. Verify if new updates are available
  5. If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and install the update(s). NOTE: the update process will require at least one restart
