Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Battery”
  3. Tap “Menu”
  4. Enable “Battery saver”

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: You can improve battery life in the long run by disabling the phone’s connectivity features when not in use, such as Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS.

  1. Swipe the status bar down on the home screen with two fingers
  2. Tap the “Location”, “Bluetooth” and “Wi-Fi” quick toggles to turn the features OFF
  3. Open “Settings”
  4. For GPS options, tap “Location” > “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
  5. To disable hotspot, return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  6. Then tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and disable the feature

Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:

NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  3. Access “Mobile networks”
  4. Tap “Preferred network type”
  5. Enable “2G”

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: You can improve battery life in the long run by reducing the amount of data synced by your accounts.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Personal”
  3. Tap “Accounts” and select an account type and the desired account
  4. Change the account’s settings to reduce sync

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes that can potentially affect battery life even when they are not actively in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps, you can improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device” and tap “Apps”
  3. Select “All apps” from the drop-down menu
  4. Tap “Disable” / “Force Stop” to disable the app
  5. To remove the app from the phone, tap “Uninstall”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Swipe the status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left
  3. For additional options, launch “Settings”
  4. Tap “Display” under “Device”
  5. Optionally, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
  6. For timeout options, tap “Sleep” and select a lower value such as “15 seconds”

Keep the OS Updated:

NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements, and as such it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check if new updates are available:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates”
  4. Verify if a new update is available for download
  5. If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply the update (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
