Enable Battery Saving Mode:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Battery” > “Menu”
  4. Enable “Battery saver”

Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen using two fingers
  2. Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
  3. Launch “Settings” and scroll to “Device”
  4. Tap “Display”
  5. Optionally, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
  6. For timeout options tap “Sleep”
  7. Select a lower screen timeout value such as “15 seconds”

Turn Unused Connectivity Features OFF:

NOTE: You can disable the phone’s connectivity features – such as Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, and Hotspot - when not actively in use in order to prevent unnecessary network scans and improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
  2. Tap the “Location”, “Bluetooth” and “Wi-Fi” quick toggles to turn these features off
  3. Tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
  4. To turn hotspot off, return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  5. Lastly tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and disable the feature

Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: In case your device runs low on battery and you don’t have access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  3. Access “Mobile networks”
  4. Tap “Preferred network type”
  5. Enable “2G”

Change Sync Settings:

NOTE: You can change your accounts’ sync settings to reduce sync and improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Personal” and tap “Accounts”
  3. Select an account type and an account
  4. Change the account’s sync settings to reduce sync

Minimize Third Party App Usage:

NOTE: Some third party apps perform regular background processes that can potentially affect the phone’s battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. Thus you can remove or disable unused third party apps to improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Scroll to “Device”
  3. Tap “Apps” and select “All apps” from the drop-down menu
  4. Tap “Force Stop” / “Disable” to disable the application
  5. To remove the app, tap “Uninstall”

Keep the OS Updated:

NOTE: OS updates can include battery life improvements and as such it’s recommended to keep the OS updated at all times. To check if new updates are available:

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Scroll to and tap “About phone”
  3. Tap “System updates”
  4. Check if a new update is available for download
  5. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply any available updates (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
