Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Battery
- Press Menu
- Enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- From the Notification area, drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease screen luminosity
- Launch Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Display and optionally, turn Adaptive brightness ON or OFF
- Tap Sleep for screen timeout options and select a lower value such as 15 seconds
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: You can disable the phones connectivity features when not in use, including Hotspot, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GPS, to improve battery life in the long run.
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- Tap the Bluetooth, Location and Wi-Fi quick toggles to turn the features OFF
- Return to Settings and access Location for GPS options
- Next tap Mode and enable Battery saving
- To disable hotspot, return to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and turn the feature off
Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or juice pack, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Launch Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks
- Access Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: You can change the sync settings of your accounts in order to reduce the amount of data synced, and improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Tap Accounts under Personal
- Select an account type and the desired account
- Change the available settings to reduce sync
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect the phones battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. By removing or disabling the phones connectivity features, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Apps and go to All apps
- Select the desired app and tap Disable or Force Stop
- To remove the app from the phone, tap Uninstall
Keep the OS Updated:
NOTE: Software updates can include battery life improvements and thus its recommended to keep the OS updated at all times. To check for updates:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Verify if a new update is available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update (NOTE: the update process requires at least one reboot)
