Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device
- Tap Battery > Menu
- Enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
- Launch Settings for additional options
- Access Display
- Optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- Tap Sleep for timeout options and select an option like 15 seconds
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: You can disable your phones connectivity features when not actively in use such as Wi-Fi, Hotspot, Bluetooth, and GPS- to avoid unnecessary network scans and improve battery life in the long run.
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Location and Bluetooth quick toggles to turn the features OFF
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to and go to Location
- Tap Mode and enable Battery saving
- Return to Settings and tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & portable hotspot and turn the features OFF
Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:
NOTE: Incase the phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve the battery until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Open Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks
- Go to Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: You can decrease the amount of data synced by your accounts to improve battery life in the long run. To do this:
- Go to Settings
- Access Accounts
- Select an account type and the desired account
- Change the available settings to reduce sync
Minimize Third-Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third-party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect the devices battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. By removing or disabling these apps, you may improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Tap Apps under Device
- Make sure All apps is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired app
- To turn the app off, tap Disable / Force Stop
- To remove the app, tap Uninstall
Keep the OS Up To Date:
NOTE: OS updates can include improvements to battery life and as such its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Open Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Verify if a new update is available for download
- If applicable, follow the on-screen steps to download and apply the update (NOTE: the process will require at least one reboot)
