Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
  2. From the quick toggle area, drag the brightness slider towards the left
  3. For additional options launch “Settings”
  4. Go to “Display” and optionally, enable or disable “Adaptive brightness”
  5. For timeout settings tap “Sleep” and select a lower value like “15 seconds”

Enable Battery Saving:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Go to “Device” > “Battery”
  3. Tap “Menu”
  4. Enable “Battery saver”

Disable Unused Connectivity Features:

NOTE: You can disable the phone’s connectivity features when not actively in use in order to avoid unnecessary network scans and potentially improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
  2. Tap the “Wi-Fi”, “Bluetooth” and “Location” quick toggles to disable the features
  3. Open “Settings” for more options
  4. Go to “Location” (GPS), tap “Mode” and enable “Battery saving”
  5. Return to “Settings” and tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks” for hotspot options
  6. Tap “Tethering & portable hotspot” and disable the feature

Switch to 2G Networks Temporarily:

NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you don’t have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can improve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Tap “More” under “Wireless & Networks”
  3. Tap “Mobile networks”
  4. Go to “Preferred network type”
  5. Enable “2G”

Reduce Sync:

NOTE: You can reduce the amount of data synced by your apps/accounts to improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Access “Personal”
  3. Go to “Accounts” and select an account type
  4. Select an account and change the available sync settings as desired

Minimize Third-Party App Usage:

NOTE: Many third-party apps perform regular background tasks and this can potentially affect battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. You can disable or remove unused third-party apps to improve battery life in the long run.

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Go to “Apps”
  3. Ensure “All apps” is selected in the drop-down menu
  4. Select the desired app
  5. To disable the app, tap “Force Stop” / “Disable”
  6. To remove the app from the phone storage, tap “Uninstall”

Keep the OS Updated:

NOTE: Software updates can improve battery life and thus it’s recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To verify if new updates are available:

  1. Launch “Settings”
  2. Access “About phone”
  3. Go to “System updates”
  4. Check if a new update is available
  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to apply available updates, if applicable (NOTE: the process will require at least one reboot)
