Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open Settings
- Go to Device
- Tap Battery > Menu
- Enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- Swipe the Status bar down on the home screen
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left to decrease luminosity
- Open Settings
- Access Display and optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- For timeout settings tap Sleep and select a lower value such as 15 seconds
Disable Unused Connectivity Features:
NOTE: You can turn the phones connectivity features Off when not actively in use to avoid unnecessary network scans and potentially improve battery life in the long run. This includes Wi-Fi, Hotspot, GPS, and Bluetooth connections.
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down
- Tap the Wi-Fi Location (GPS) and Bluetooth quick toggles to turn the features Off
- Go back to Settings and access Location for GPS options
- Tap Mode and enable Battery saving
- Return to Settings and tap more under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Tethering & Portable hotspot and turn the feature off
Temporarily Switch to 2G Networks:
NOTE: If your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a battery bank or wall socket, you can conserve energy until the next recharge by temporarily switching to 2G networks.
- Launch Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap mobile networks > preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Minimize Third-Party App Usage:
NOTE: Some third-party apps perform regular background processes which can potentially affect the phones battery life even when the apps are not actively in use. You can remove or disable unused third-party apps to potentially improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings
- Access Apps > All apps
- Select the desired app
- To turn the app off, tap Force Stop / Disable
- To remove the app from the phone tap Uninstall
Change Sync Settings:
NOTE: You can change your accounts settings to reduce sync and potentially improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Access Accounts and tap an account type
- Select the desired account
- Change the available sync settings as needed
Keep the OS Up To Date:
NOTE: OS updates can improve battery life and its recommended to keep the OS up to date at all times. To check for updates:
- Launch Settings
- Go to About phone
- Tap System updates
- Check if a new update is available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to install the update (note that the update process will require to reboot the phone at least once)
