What inexpensive or pay-as-you-go US cell phone plans can you suggest for someone who doesn't use her cell phone a lot but needs one occasionally, uses a lot of data, and needs to have a hotspot ready for emergencies?

I work from home at my computer, and I don't use my cell phone at home for anything I can do more easily on a computer, including texting. I sometimes go weeks at a time without calling or receiving calls on my cell phone other than unwanted calls that I don't pick up for. The data adds up, though, because other family members and I use Life360 to track each other so we always know where everyone is. Most of my trips are just within town, but I need enough available data to track me on the occasional longer trip.

In addition, I need my phone to work as a mobile hotspot if my Internet connection isn't working and I need to be online for work.

I'd prefer a plan where I pay as I go and have the option to use use a lot more data on those rare occasions when I need it. If I can't find that, I'd like an inexpensive plan where I pay monthly. All I need is a little time for minutes and texts and a lot of data available, preferably 1 GB or more (although most amonths I probably won't use more than 300 MB). That should cover the tracking data and the hotspot on the rare occasions when I need one.

Is it possible to find what I'm looking for for $10 or so a month?
