Managing Display Settings

Decreasing the Screen Brightness or Using Automatic Brightness:

  1. While viewing the home screen, swipe the "notification" bar down using two fingers
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Tap "Display, gestures & buttons" under "Phone"
  4. Tap "Brightness"
  5. Mark the "Automatic brightness" check box
  6. To set the brightness manually, clear the check box and drag the "Brightness" slider to the left

Disabling Live Wallpapers:

NOTE: live wallpapers can have a great impact on your phone's battery life, so it's highly recommended that you use a normal image as your phone's wallpaper. To do so:

  1. Drag the "status" bar down using two fingers
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Tap "Personalize" > "Wallpaper"
  4. Choose "HTC wallpapers" or "Gallery"
  5. Select the desired image and tap "Done" or "Accept". NOTE: if picking an image from the gallery, you'll need to crop / resize it etc.

Lowering the Screen Timeout Duration:

  1. Swipe the "notification" bar down using two fingers
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Tap "Display, gestures & buttons" under "Phone"
  4. Tap "Sleep" and select a lower value, such as "15 seconds"

Disabling Haptic Feedback and Touch Sounds:

  1. Access the "Settings" menu
  2. Tap "Sound" under "Phone"
  3. Clear the check boxes next to "Vibrate on touch", "Touch sounds" and "Vibrate"

Dimming the Screen when Loading Web Pages:

A lower screen brightness means more battery life, and the stock HTC browser includes the option to dim the display when webpages are loading. To take advantage of this option:

  1. Launch the "Internet" application
  2. Tap the "Menu" icon
  3. Tap "Settings" and go to "Accessibility"
  4. Mark the check box next to "Dim screen during page loading"

Managing Connectivity Features

Disabling Bluetooth and Wi-Fi:

When not in use, it's always a good idea to disable Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, as both features can impact your battery performance.

  1. From the home screen, swipe the "notification" bar down using two fingers
  2. Tap the "Bluetooth" and "Wi-Fi" tiles to disable them, and turn off the features

Turning GPS Off:

GPS is one of the most battery consuming features on a smartphone, so it's highly recommended you keep GPS disabled whenever possible. To do so:

  1. Drag the "status" bar down with two fingers
  2. Tap "Settings" > "Locations"
  3. Clear the check box next to "Location sources"

Enabling Sleep Mode:

Sleep mode allows your phone to automatically disable all data connections on your smartphone, once a certain period of time of inactivity has passed. As such, network activity when in sleep mode will be reduced or disabled, and stand-by battery times will increase. Once out of sleep mode, all data connections will be automatically enabled.

  1. While on the home screen, swipe the "Status" bar down using two fingers
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Tap "Power" under "Phone"
  4. Enable "Sleep mode" by setting the associated switch to "On"

NOTE: when in Sleep mode, data connections will be disabled, so you won't receive notifications once Sleep mode kicks in.

Managing Applications

Disabling / Uninstalling Apps:

NOTE: you can increase your phone's battery life by disabling or uninstalling applications that you don't use. This can save battery life mainly because, even when not open, an app can still run processes and sync data in the background. To disable or uninstall an application:

  1. Access the phone's "Settings" menu
  2. Tap "Apps" and swipe to the "All" tab
  3. Select an application
  4. Tap "Disable" to turn off the app.
  5. To completely remove an app, tap "Uninstall". NOTE: only third party apps can be uninstalled. Pre-loaded apps can only be disabled

Keeping Your Applications Updated:

  1. Open the "Play Store" on your smartphone
  2. Go to "My apps"
  3. Access the "Installed" tab, and tap "Update all". Alternatively, you can update apps individually, bu taping the "Update" button associated with the said app

Disabling Background Data and Lowering Sync Settings

Changing the Sync Settings for the Weather App:

It's recommended that you don't set the weather app to show the weather in cities that you don't visit, as your phone will sync unnecessary data. To adjust your weather app:

  1. Open the apps drawer and launch the "Weather" app
  2. Tap the "Menu" button
  3. Tap "Edit" and remove the desired cities / locations

Changing Sync Settings for Email Accounts:

  1. Launch the "Mail" app
  2. Select an account
  3. Tap "Menu"
  4. Go to "Settings" > "Sync, Send & Receive"
  5. Under "Sync schedule", adjust the sync settings

Disabling Data Sync:

  1. Drag the "notification" bar down, using two fingers
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Tap "Accounts & sync"
  4. Clear the check boxes next to the desired sync options

Enabling Power Saver Mode:

NOTE: the power saver mode can automatically decrease brightness, under-clock the processor and adjust various other settings, in order to increase battery life once a certain percentage of batter has been reached (yellow levels in general). To enable power saver mode:

  1. Swipe the "status" bar down with two fingers
  2. Tap the "…" button next to the "Power Saver Mode" tile
  3. Clear or mark the check boxes next to the features that you wish to be enabled or disabled during saver mode
  4. Tap the "On / Off" switch to enable / disable the feature
