Back Up the HTC One M8s to Google Drive:

  1. Go to the phone's "Settings" menu
  2. Tap "Backup & reset" > "Backup account"
  3. Tap "HTC Account" and if necessary, sign in with your HTC account (NOTE: you can also use a Facebook or Google account)
  4. In the "Cloud Storage" screen tap "Google Drive" > "OK"
  5. Sign in with your Google account to access Drive
  6. Set "Automatic backup" "ON" to enable auto back up
  7. To manually back up your data, tap "Back up now"

NOTE: You can create auto daily backups by going to "Settings" > "Back up phone daily over Wi-Fi"

Restore Data from Google Drive after a fresh Reset:

  1. Turn your phone on after a fresh factory reset and use "Restore from HTC Backup" when prompted
  2. Sign in with the account containing the backup
  3. Open the history menu and choose the desired backup
  4. Tap "Next" and sign in with your Google account
  5. Allow HTC Backup to connect to Google Drive
  6. Tap "Next" when the files have been restored

Create Local Backups and Restore them

Back Up Contacts:

  1. Tap "Phone" from the home screen
  2. Access the "Phone" tab
  3. Press "Menu" and tap "Manage Contacts"
  4. Tap "Import / Export contacts" > "Export to SD card"
  5. Tap "Export to phone storage" and choose an account
  6. To set a password for the backup file, tap "Yes"
  7. Tap "OK" to confirm and create the backup

Restore Contacts:

  1. Open the "People" app
  2. Press "Menu" > "Manage Contacts"
  3. Tap "Import / Export contacts"
  4. Depending on the location of the backup file, tap "Import from phone storage" or "Import from SD Card"
  5. Select an account if necessary
  6. Highlight the backup file and tap "OK"
  7. If the backup is password protected, enter the security information and tap "OK"

Back Up Messages:

  1. Open "Messages"
  2. Press "Menu" > "Backup / Restore SMS"
  3. Next, tap "Back up" and select "Back up SMS"
  4. Set a password for the file if you want
  5. Enter a name for the file
  6. Tap "OK"

Back Up Text Messages via Email:

  1. Launch "Messages"
  2. Press "Menu" > "Back up / Restore SMS"
  3. Tap "Back up"
  4. Select to "Back up SMS via email"
  5. Choose whether you wish to password protect the file or not
  6. Send the email with the attached back up SMS file to your email address

NOTE: To restore messages from email, open the email containing the back up file, download the file and import it using the "Messages" app

Back Up / Restore Tasks:

  1. Open the "Tasks" app
  2. In the task list, press "menu"
  3. Tap "Import / Export"
  4. Tap "Export to SD card"

NOTE: To restore tasks open the application and press "Menu" > "Import / Export" > "import from SD card"

Back Up a Dictionary:

  1. Launch the phone's "Settings" menu
  2. Tap "Language & Keyboard"
  3. Tap "HTC Sense Input"
  4. Select "Personal dictionary" and tap "Menu"
  5. Tap "Back up to storage" or "Back up to email"
  6. Press "OK"
