WARNING! When you factory reset your device, all personal data located on the phone’s internal memory will be deleted. This includes ringtones, downloaded content, contacts, apps etc. In addition, all settings will be restored to factory values, however, data located on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected.

NOTE: Before you master reset your phone, you can visit this thread for a guide on how to back up data, and this thread for instructions on how to restore data.

Factory Reset via Settings:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Go to “Settings”
  3. Scroll to “Personal”
  4. Tap “Backup & reset” and enable or disable “Automatic Restore” and “Back up my data”
  5. Tap “Reset phone”
  6. Assuming your device is protected by a lock screen, enter your PIN / password / pattern to proceed
  7. Optionally, you can choose to “Erase SD Card” too. WARNING! By enabling this option, all contend on the SD card will be deleted by the factory reset
  8. Tap “OK” to confirm

Factory Reset via Recovery:

NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via Settings, alternatively you can reset the phone from the Android System Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of key presses.

  1. Ensure the phone is powered Off
  2. With the device powered Off, press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” at the same time
  3. After the phone vibrates, release “Power”
  4. When you gain access to “hTC download menu”, release “Volume down” too
  5. From the download menu, press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate to and highlight “Reboot to bootloader”
  6. Press “Power” and select the highlighted option
  7. Press “Volume down” to highlight “Boot to Recovery mode”
  8. Press “Power” to confirm
  9. When you gain access to the HTC and “No Command” screen, press and hold “Power” and then tap and release “Volume down”
  10. From the Android Recovery menu, release “Power”
  11. Next, press “volume down” repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight “wipe data / factory reset”
  12. Press “Power” to confirm
  13. Use the volume rocker to highlight “Yes – delete all user data” and press “Power” to confirm
  14. After the master reset is done, highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power” to confirm

Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: Once you have reset your phone, it’s recommended to check if new OS updates are available for download. To do this:

  1. Launch the apps drawer
  2. Access “Settings”
  3. Scroll to and tap “About”
  4. Tap “Software information” and verify if new updates are available
  5. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply any available updates. NOTE: The update process will require at least one reboot
