WARNING! When you factory reset your device, all personal data located on the phones internal memory will be deleted. This includes ringtones, downloaded content, contacts, apps etc. In addition, all settings will be restored to factory values, however, data located on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected.
NOTE: Before you master reset your phone, you can visit this thread for a guide on how to back up data, and this thread for instructions on how to restore data.
Factory Reset via Settings:
- Open the apps drawer
- Go to Settings
- Scroll to Personal
- Tap Backup & reset and enable or disable Automatic Restore and Back up my data
- Tap Reset phone
- Assuming your device is protected by a lock screen, enter your PIN / password / pattern to proceed
- Optionally, you can choose to Erase SD Card too. WARNING! By enabling this option, all contend on the SD card will be deleted by the factory reset
- Tap OK to confirm
Factory Reset via Recovery:
NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it via Settings, alternatively you can reset the phone from the Android System Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of key presses.
- Ensure the phone is powered Off
- With the device powered Off, press and hold Power and Volume down at the same time
- After the phone vibrates, release Power
- When you gain access to hTC download menu, release Volume down too
- From the download menu, press Volume down repeatedly to navigate to and highlight Reboot to bootloader
- Press Power and select the highlighted option
- Press Volume down to highlight Boot to Recovery mode
- Press Power to confirm
- When you gain access to the HTC and No Command screen, press and hold Power and then tap and release Volume down
- From the Android Recovery menu, release Power
- Next, press volume down repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight wipe data / factory reset
- Press Power to confirm
- Use the volume rocker to highlight Yes delete all user data and press Power to confirm
- After the master reset is done, highlight Reboot system now and press Power to confirm
Check for OS Updates:
NOTE: Once you have reset your phone, its recommended to check if new OS updates are available for download. To do this:
- Launch the apps drawer
- Access Settings
- Scroll to and tap About
- Tap Software information and verify if new updates are available
- If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply any available updates. NOTE: The update process will require at least one reboot
