WARNING! When you factory reset your phone, your personal data on the devices internal memory will be deleted. This includes media files and ringtones, apps, contacts, downloaded content etc. Data located on the SD and SIM cards wont be affected but settings will be restored to factory values.
NOTE: Before factory resetting the phone, you can check this thread for a guide on backing up data, and this thread for instructions on restoring data.
Factory Reset via Settings:
- Open Settings
- Go to Personal
- Tap Backup & Reset and optionally, enable or disable Back up my data and Automatic restore
- Tap Reset phone
- If your phone is protected by a lock screen, enter your password/PIN to proceed
- Optionally, select whether or not to Erase SD card
- When ready tap OK
Factory Reset via Android Recovery:
NOTE: If your phone freezes, crashes, or otherwise prevents you from resetting it using the method above, alternatively you can try resetting the device from Android Recovery.
- Ensure the phone is powered off
- Press and hold Power and Volume Down simultaneously
- Release Power when the phone vibrates
- In the HTC Download screen, release volume down too
- Then press Volume down repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight Reboot to bootloader
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Then highlight Boot to recovery mode and press Power
- At the No command screen, press and hold Power and Volume Up simultaneously
- Release the keys once in Android Recovery
- Next, navigate the recovery menu using the volume keys and highlight Wipe data/factory data reset
- Press Power to select the highlighted option
- Then select Yes delete all user data and press Power
- Lastly, once the reset is complete, highlight Reboot system now and press Power one last time
