VX9800 eVDO and reception questions

It seems Im frequently in eVDO areas and its always lit up on my phone. What I dont understand is its purpose. I have hopke.net internet service and it seems that eVDO does nothing to help anything. I can have 4 eVDO bars lit and my internet wont work. It has nothing to do with call strength i know that, im thinking about just turning it off as I know when my eVDO connection is on that im not going to be able to get on the internet......any help would be appreciated....-Stu

I Know That If You Are With Verizon That Evdo Is For The Vcast Service So If You Don't Subscribe To That I Think You Should Be Safe To Turn It Off.

This is basically the connection for internet things on the phone. If you don't have the internet service than EV-DO is not needed.
