I wish to use my mp3 files as ringtones, but do not wish to download them from Sprint. They are too expensive, and frankly they have poor taste in ringtones.

I am using a FUSIC (LG5500) phone, and my provider is Sprint. There does not seem to be an easy way to use my files as ringtones, so I downloaded BITPIM. I have downloaded the cable driver, which I know works because I can use the cable to load mp3s ONTO the phone, and the current version of BITPIM 1.0.5. I have tried both with the USB function open and closed.

I can't get it to recognize my phone for love nor money. Is there a trick to this that I haven't figured out?
