WARNING! Factory resetting your phone will result in the deletion of all personal data stored on the internal memory, including ringtones, apps, downloaded content, media files etc. Furthermore all settings will be restored to factory values.

NOTE: Before applying the master reset you can visit this thread to learn how you can back up data on the LG Risio. Visit this thread for a full guide on restoring data.

    Master Reset via Settings:

    1. Tap “Apps” on the home screen
    2. Access “Settings”
    3. If necessary, tap “Menu” > “List view”
    4. Swipe to “Personal” and tap “Backup & reset”
    5. Optionally, enable “Back up my data” and “Automatic restore”
    6. Tap “Backup account” and if necessary, follow the on-screen steps to create or sign in with your Google account
    7. Tap “Factory data reset”
    8. Optionally, enable “Erase SD card” (WARNING! This will remove all data stored on the SD, so create backups if necessary)
    9. Tap “Reset phone” > “Erase everything”
    10. Tap “OK” to confirm

    Master Reset via Recovery:

NOTE: If you are unable to master reset the phone following the steps above, you can also try resetting it via Recovery, by performing a sequence of button presses. To do this:

    1. Turn off the phone
    2. Press and hold “Power” and “Volume down” at the same time
    3. At the “LG logo”, release and quickly re-hold the “Power” button
    4. Eventually “Factory data reset” should appear
    5. Use “Volume down” to navigate to, and highlight “Yes”
    6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
    7. “Erase all user data and restore default settings” should appear
    8. Navigate to and highlight “Yes” using “Volume Down”
    9. Press “Power”

    Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: After a fresh factory reset you should check and see if newer software versions are available for your phone. To do so:

    1. Open the apps drawer
    2. Go to “Settings”
    3. Tap “Menu” > “Switch to list view”
    4. Scroll to “System” and tap “About phone”
    5. Tap “Software info”
    6. Check if newer updates are available. If yes, follow the on-screen prompts to download and install it

Re: LG Risio: Factory Reset and Check for OS Updates

So.. I followed the instructions to the letter. I had to use the Master Reset Via Recovery because of what was happening to my device. Anyway, I boot back in, everything APPEARS normal... I choose mobile and WiFi... I setup lock-screen and checked the available Google options. The device begins to process... and then stops (no error message) and sits waiting for me to choose a connection (but it's still connected). I have patiently waited and have tried every logical an illogical combination of options..

    Hi David,

What type of connection, exactly? Is it Wi-Fi? If yes, then have you tried connecting to a different network, or skip this step altogether?
Is your phone at all responsive once it "stops", or is it completely frozen?

My LG Risio will only let me download apps from Google Play with Wi-Fi, how can I download apps using data?

Re: LG Risio: Factory Reset and Check for OS Updates

Hi DustenRust, i'm having the same problem as David was. I use wifi text, so there for i don't have an activated sim card. Though after doing a hard reset i enter the setup wizard, then sign into my wifi i hit next, it searches for connection then software update. It stops after a few seconds and returns to wifi setup again. My risio is fully responsive, please tell me there is a way to get passed this. I'm extremely tech savvy, so i'm sure i'll be able to accomplish anything you suggest!

Thanks for your time, Hope to hear from you soon!

    Shyla.

    @ Shyle Dreanne

So are you having trouble signing in to your Wi-Fi network?

If yes, can you skip the step altogether, then manually access Wi-Fi settings > forget the network, and try joining the network again? (you will need to re-enter the Wi-Fi network's password etc.)

Re: LG Risio: Factory Reset and Check for OS Updates

Yes i understand that, i'm passed that part. I lost the original sim card that it came with the phone, and since i'm not going need a sim card(because i use a texting app over wifi as my phone). So without the sim card it tries to activate it, or tries to activate the devices protection since its 5.1.1. While its attempting to activate the sim, or device protection, it stops and brings me back to the beginning of setup. Long story short i'm stuck in a setup wizard loop. I can't get to the home screen, or even the step of signing into my google account.

Strange. As far as I know there should be a "Skip" option even without a SIM card. I'm not aware of the changes in the Wizard setup for Android 5.1.1.

Re: LG Risio: Factory Reset and Check for OS Updates

Alright so i decided to do another hard reset, after it boots up i get a error that i must have over looked somehow last time i did the hard reset. The error is "SIM not provisioned MM #2". I did some research and i'm reading that you MUST have a activated sim card. Which i find totally ridiculous! I hope there is a way i can bypass this, If its not possible, maybe i can install a different ROM maybe 5.0.2 , if there is one compatible with the Risio. Though if that were the case i have no custom recovery installed, so i don't know how i'd flash it. Man this phone isn't good enough to make stress this bad, haha i miss my s4.

Re: LG Risio: Factory Reset and Check for OS Updates

I highly suggest not going from 5.1.1 to 5.0.1 because you'll brick ir phone down grading never a good idea, you may have some lucky finding a custom ROM like on XDA Forums or Android forums, and LOL I have the same phone having the same problem.
I factory reset my phone twice and same problem as the first factory reset connected to a WiFi source and I can't add my Google account Email, it tells me I'm not connected to a network and haha contact my service provider, it's not connected to a network anymore it was with Cricket Wireless but when I got a newer phone I switched providers. All I want to do is make it a kodi TV for my kid's, and LG and there goofy restrictions has me stumped. So I'll just find me a custom ROM if there's one to be found. Well good luck I'm off to search for a ROM for me silly LG.

I don't suggest that. But remember to backup your device.
