WARNING! A factory reset of your phone will delete all your personal data located on the device’s internal storage. This includes media files, ringtones, downloaded content, apps, contacts etc. Furthermore, all settings will be restored to factory values.

NOTE: Data located on the SIM and SD cards will not be affected by the factory reset. For guides on how to back up and reset the LG X Max, visit this thread and this link respectively.

Factory Reset via the Settings Menu:

  1. Swipe the “Notification” bar down on the home screen
  2. Open the “Settings” menu
  3. Access the “General” tab
  4. Tap “Backup & reset” and clear or check the boxes associated with “Automatic restore” and “Back up my data”
  5. Tap “Backup account”, and if necessary, follow the on-screen instructions to sign in with, or create a Google backup account
  6. Tap “Factory data reset”
  7. Optionally, choose to “Erase SD Card” as well. WARNING! By enabling this option, all data located on the SD card will be deleted throughout the factory reset process
  8. Tap “Reset Phone” > “Next” when ready
  9. Tap “Delete all” > “OK” to confirm

Factory Reset via Android Recovery:

NOTE: In case you are unable to factory reset the device via Settings as described above, alternatively you can try resetting the device from the Android System Recovery menu, which can be accessed by performing a combination of button presses.

  1. Ensure the phone is turned off
  2. Press and hold the “Volume down” and “Power” buttons at the same time
  3. When the “LG” logo appears, quickly released and re-hold “Power”
  4. At the “Factory data reset” screen, release all buttons
  5. Press “Volume down” to highlight “Yes”
  6. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  7. When prompted with “Erase all user data and restore default settings”, press “Volume down” to highlight “Yes”
  8. Press "Power” again to confirm

Check for OS Updates:

NOTE: After you have reset your device, it’s recommended to check if new software updates are available for download. To do this:

  1. Swipe the “Status” bar down while viewing the home screen
  2. Open “Settings”
  3. Access the “General” tab and scroll to, then tap “About phone”
  4. Tap “Software info” and check if a new update is available for download
  5. If necessary, follow the on-screen instructions to download and install any available updates. NOTE: This process will require you to restart your phone
