If I had to choose between those three I'd personally take the V551. I've heard very good things about it (and of course a few bad). Here is a link to a review that was recently done on the phone:
I'm sure "Vis" who posted the review will post here also on the phone.
I have also heard that the 220 wasn't worth getting. Well, actually I've heard more bad things about the phone than good.
I'm sorry I haven't really heard anthing on the 317.
Good luck on your new phone!

You can go to a Cingular store and pay $189.00, and they may offer you a $90.00 mail-in rebate (if you trust mail-in rebates).
You can go to Wal-Mart and get it for $49.99.
When I asked the salesperson at Cingular why I would pay $189.00 at a Cingular store and only $49.99 at Wal-Mart, he explained that Wal-Mart sold reconditioned phones. I asked the clerk, "If it's reconditioned, won't it be just as good as a 'new' phone?" He hemmed and hawed, never answering my question but also never saying they weren't basically the same damn thing.
Needless to say, I bought mine at Wal-Mart and I couldn't tell if it was reconditioned or not. It's in perfect, pristine condition. Also, for some reason my deposit at Wal-Mart was $150.00 cheaper than if I had bought it at Cingular. I don't know what that's all about, but when it comes to saving a huge chunk of change, I'm going to do it.
Also, you can get a 551 at Best Buy for $49.99, but they are not set up to take deposits. So, if your credit isn't the best, or even if Cingular wants a $10.00 deposit, you can't get it from Best Buy.
(I asked the same Cingular salesperson why I couldn't buy a phone at Best Buy and come to a Cingular store to pay my deposit and get it activated, and he said they don't activate phones purchased elsewhere. They may have been a crock o' doody, but they really wanted my money and some skin from my butt.)
Anyway, to make a long story even longer, I'd say get the 551. You'll like it.

First off, V3 was not one of the phones the person was asking about. Please people, when someone ask's about certain phones, let's talk about them first. If you do want to suggest another phone, be specific, add links, show the person what your talking about. Show them why you suggest that phone would be better than what they are asking about.
Think about if your were asking a question, would you like somebody just throwing something out there? Not backing it up, not saying why? I know I wouldn't.
Please consider the original thread and post accordingly.
Oh, and "Vis"...thank you...your post was most helpful.
Also, Moto has a phone that hold's memory cards (I'm talking about Verizon only here, but the feature is standard with the phone)...the V710....probably the best feature I personally like about this phone. Or don't you consider Trans Flash cards to be memory card?
Anyway, continued good luck on getting your new phone!
