1. connect the phone to the computer and make sure it is recognized as a modem device (check device manager)
2. open your hyperterminal application and there should be a drop down list with different modem devices... your phone will be listed as something like "motorola usb modem" select it from the drop down list
3. the program will ask for calling details... you can leave these blank
4. click okay, then click cancel (for the final dialing details screen)
5. your hyperterminal is now connected to the phone
6. you can type this command: AT+MODE=8 and then press enter.
7. you may not see any of the text that is entered since the phone is not going to show you anything... its not got a textual user interface. (the application is really meant for connecting to something like a router and working with the operating system on IT)
8. after pressing enter, the window will show "OK" and you will hear tones from the phone and the PC indicating that the phone has swapped modes to P2K mode
9. you can verify this by checking device manager and see that there is now instead of one device under Modems, there is another category called "usb device" with the motorola icon next to it, expanding that category will show three sub devices. The "test command" interface is the one that p2k commander looks for.
