I've got a Verizon W385. Finally got around to snapping some photos with it, and now I want to figure out how to transfer them to my PC (XP). I've already got a cable that connects the phone to the USB port on my PC. (Cable came with one of those photo keychains.)

PC can't see the new device, so I assume I also need software. (Or is it possible that not all USB cables with the correct ends will necessarily work with this phone?)

I poked around on the web looking for software, but I'm not exactly sure what I need. Motorola Photo Tools, or something else?

I don't want to spend a lot on the software (I'm sure not paying Motorola $50!), since the photos will probably be really lousy and I might not ever do this again.

Can anyone let me know exactly what software I need? I'm finding Motorola Phone Tools on eBay, but I'm guessing it comes in different versions for different phones, and I need to make sure I get a version that works with the W385 -- right?

    TIA.

Re: How to transfer photos from W385 to PC?

Try downloading the latest version of Motorola Software Update (MSU) and P2kCommander (P2K); both are free downloads ... Google for them. You would then start by plugging in the USB data cable to the PC and then the phone, then launching MSU, and then P2K (this program actually enables you to view the file system on your cellphone, and transfer files to & from the phone) ... the root directory on the phone usually shows up as /a. If this doesn't work, and you suspect the USB cable , you can buy an OEM data cable for your W385 here: OEM Motorola W385 USB Data Cable (SKN6371) - Cell Phone Data Cable & Memory for Motorola W385

P2K Commander 6 works great for dropping files, pics, & sound files for ringtones and backup to PC. But, I am trying to figure out where do I drop games that I have downloaded.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks :-)

I've tired P2k w/ MUS and MPT, the programs don't recognize the phone. The computer recognizes the phone right off, but others don't. what could it be?

Sounds like you may need to download the USB driver for your phone first. Go to the Motorola website USB and PC Charging Drivers - Motorola USA and click this link to d/l the file:

Motorola 4.2.0 Driver with MotoConnect* (for 32-bit versions of Windows®)

Looks like the file is zipped, so you will have to extract it. I would save the file to your desktop and extract it from there.
