After several reports from forums and even the official forum of Motorola, it has been determined that the Motorola Defy, the rugged handset, has a defective flaw in its earpiece. The claim regarding the defective earpieces has been verified by Eldar Murtazin of Mobile-review.

Many batches have been affected and for those Motorola Defy's that still remain in stock for 2010 in Europe, there's almost a guarantee that the device will have the earpice problem. If you still want a Motorola Defy, it's best to wait for those Defy's made in December 2010 or 2011.

Motorola has not officially acknowledge a problem with the earpiece but they are suggesting that you should take your device to a service center if you are faced with this problem. Why are the Motorola Defy earpieces not working is still yet unknown, but some speculate that it could have something to do with the 3.5mm headset jack being too close to the earpiece which could cause a short in the earpiece.
