Greetings,
I just signed up with Consumer Cellular and received a Motorola WX345 for 'free'. For an entry level phone I am amazed at the features. My wife has phone env.
After chatting with a Motorola rep, I think I can connect the phone to my PC and transfer files without needing any special driver. I need to go buy a mini-B 5 pin cable, then I'll try it and report back.
This is my first cell phone.

I went to Radio Shack and bought a USB-A to micro USB-B cable. (Gigaware #26-1416). Not the cheapest but it was convenient.
I do not have any Motorola drivers installed on my PC.
I plugged the cable into the phone and then into the PC. The front LCD on the phone displayed a USB symbol and a symbol indicating the battery was charging.
After a few seconds my PC displayed a message saying my new hardware was ready for use.
I opened My Computer and saw 2 removable drives.
The first one pertains to the SIM card. My PC cannot access this drive.
The second one is for the 1MB sd card that came with my phone. My PC can access the folders and files on that card just fine.
Next I am going to try to figure out how I can make a contact file on my PC and move it to my phone.

BTW, the info you see to the left of my post does not correctly show my phone or carrier. The correct choices were not available too me when I registered. I posted a msg for the moderators about that.

Re: WX345 - First time mentioned in this forum
I just had more chat with a Motorola rep. Between what the rep said and my own testing it appears that:
1. Mobile Phone Tools 5.0 will not recognize the WX345 phone. Hopefully a future update to the phone's firmware and/or to Phone Tools will enable them to work together.
2. You cannot build a file of Contacts on your PC, move that file to the WX345 and have the phone recognize that file as a bunch of Contacts. The only way (at the present time) to get Contacts into the phone is to enter them via the phone's keypad.

Well this is a bit odd.
This phone has some pre-defined contact group names. These are names like:
Family
Friends
Business
But I do not see any way to put my contacts into these various groups. All I can do is put my contacts into one big list.

Hold everything. I got it.
Under each contact you can scroll down through various pieces of info.
The last one on the list lets you place contacts into groups.
Also, I am fairly certain that this phone lets you change any of the existing group names and also add new group names

Re: WX345 - First time mentioned in this forum
Had exactly the same problem. On the Motorola website I got into a chat with a service rep and she told me I needed phone tools and a data cord. She gave me the website link and I went there and gulped when it said $49.99. I got busy and found Motorola Phone Tools and a micro cord for $9 dollars delivered through and Amazon connected company. I went throught the same frustration with Phone Tools until I saw your note and Eureka! it worked. I guess I can use the Phone Tools disk for a coaster. Now I need to find out why I was able to link my Scala 600 blue tooth to the phone okay but the voice control doesn't work. It says it is connected to the device but it won't make calls by voice command. I have a question pending to Motorola.

The website for Motorola Phone Tools indicates the WX345 is not supported.
Avanquest - PC Utility, Windows Tools, Small Business Software
Anyone know of any way of transferring contacts by using the micro memory card or the USB cable?

Make sure the contacts in your old phone are in the phone memory. Switch sim cards and put your new sim card in your old phone and move the contacts to the sim card. Switch them again and when your new sim card is back in the new phone move the contacts to the phones memory.

Not exactly true... Phone tools will not recognize the phone, but I just copied all my contacts to the SIM card in my WX345. I built a CSV file with all my old contacts. The CSV file consisted of only the name and number. I purchased a Stanley Global Tech USB 2.0 card reader writer which included the SIM editing software, and this enabled me to copy the contacts onto my SIM card and thus into my phone. With over 170 contacts I really didn't want to enter them all from the keypad.

I wish you luck.
I just purchased the same phone from Consumer Cellular.
I used the cable and the phone went into charging mode and no indicators on the phone that it is connecting, as per the instruction book. I plugged it in correctly to my computer and it does not work.Last edited by George59; 07-02-2012 at 02:49 AM.

Re: WX345 - First time mentioned in this forum
after plugging in the USB, open the phone and see a screen for 'mass storage' 'com port', highlight the 'mass storage' and 'ok', the PC will see it then.
