Clear App Cache/Data:

NOTE: If one of your apps crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended and you’re trying to fix the issues by clearing the app’s cache or data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including login information, user profiles, personalized settings, save files etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Access “Apps” and select “All apps”
  3. Tap the desired app and access “Storage”
  4. Tap “Clear cache”
  5. If clearing the app cache didn’t help, you can tap “Clear data” > “OK” instead (check the WARNING above)

Wipe the Phone’s Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your device crashes, freezes, doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering a factory reset, alternatively you can try solving these issues by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can have results similar to a factory reset without losing personal data on the device.

  1. Turn the phone off if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Volume down” and “Power” at the same time
  3. At the “Boot Mode Selection” menu, release the buttons
  4. Press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight “Recovery”
  5. Press “Volume Up” to select the highlighted option
  6. At the “No Command” screen, press and release “Power” and “Volume Up” at the same time
  7. In Recovery, press “Volume down” to navigate the menu and highlight “Wipe cache partition”
  8. Press “Power” to select the option and highlight “Reboot system now”
  9. Press “Power”

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t help, you can check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the phone instead.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:

NOTE: If one of your third-party apps doesn’t work as intended and prevents you from uninstalling it, you should be able to remove the app while in Safe Mode where al third-party apps are disabled by default. To reboot to Safe Mode:

  1. Press and hold “Power” while on the home screen
  2. While in the Power Management pop-up, tap and hold “Power off”
  3. At the “Reboot to Safe Mode” prompt tap “OK”
  4. After the phone reboots, a “Safe Mode” watermark should be visible in the lower area of the home screen
  5. To remove an app, first open “Settings”
  6. Go to “Apps” and switch to “All apps” if necessary
  7. Select the desired app and tap ‘Uninstall” > “OK”
  8. To exit Safe Mode, reboot your phone as you would do normally
