Clear App Cache/Data:

NOTE: If one of your apps crashes, freezes, takes up too much storage inexplicably or otherwise doesn’t work as intended, you can try fixing these issues by clearing the app’s cache and/or data.

WARNING! When you clear an app’s data, all your personal data stored within the app will be deleted, including user profiles, custom settings, login information, save files etc. To avoid losing personal app data, clear ONLY the app’s cache.

  1. Open “Settings”
  2. Access “Apps”
  3. Select “All apps” and tap the desired app
  4. Tap “Storage” > “Clear cache”
  5. If clearing the app cache didn’t help, you can tap “Clear data” > “OK” (check the warning above)

Wipe the Cache Partition:

NOTE: If your phone crashes, freezes, doesn’t work as intended and you’re considering a factory reset, alternatively you can try fixing these issues by clearing the phone’s cache partition. This can have results similar to a factory reset without losing personal data from the phone.

  1. Turn the phone off if necessary
  2. Press and hold “Volume down” and “Power” at the same time
  3. Release the keys at the “Boot Mode Selection” menu
  4. Press “Volume down” repeatedly to navigate the menu and highlight “Recovery”
  5. Press “Volume Up” to select the highlighted option
  6. At the “No Command” screen press both “Power” and “Volume Up” repeatedly to gain access to Recovery
  7. Once in Android Recovery, press “Volume down” and highlight “Wipe cache partition”
  8. Press “Power” to select the highlighted option
  9. Then highlight “Reboot system now” and press “Power” to confirm

NOTE: If clearing the cache partition didn’t help, you can check this thread for a guide on how to factory reset the phone.

Reboot to Safe Mode and Uninstall an App:

NOTE: If one of your third-party apps doesn’t work as intended and prevents you from removing it, you should be able to uninstall the app while in Safe Mode, where all third-party apps are disabled by default. To reboot to Safe Mode:

  1. Press and hold “Power” on the home screen
  2. Tap and hold “Power off” in the power management pop-up
  3. At the “Reboot to Safe Mode” prompt, tap “OK”
  4. After the phone finishes rebooting, a “Safe Mode” watermark should be visible in the lower area of the home screen
  5. To remove an app open “Settings”
  6. Next go to “Apps” and switch to “All apps”
  7. Select the desired app
  8. Tap “Uninstall” > “OK”
  9. To exit Safe Mode, reboot your phone as you would do normally
