    Hey everybody,
Hopefully this isn't off topic. I currently have service with verizon wireless. I just started a new job and the company uses Nextel. They have offered to pay for my cell phone service provided I port to Nextel. The question I have is when is the best time to port? I'm not under contract, I just want to avoid paying for a full month, or avoid any fees Verizon may try to charge me. My billing cycle ends the 6th of every month so I'm thinking of porting about 3 or 4 days prior to the 6th. I'm thinking I will only get prorated for 3-4 days worth of service. If anyone has ported to Nextel from Verizon please email me at [email protected] and let me know of any problems you had or what you did to avoid any problems,
    Thanks in advance

call verizon and let them know 30 days before you start your next billing cycle.

DO NOT call Verizon to tell them you are planning to leave. Carriers are known to cancel your service at that point and you will NOT get your phone # back.

But I think other than that your basic plan is sound.

Worst case: If you port 7 days prior to the end of your billing cycle, the most you might have to pay extra is a few days to the end of the cycle, even if they decide to make you pay the whole month and not pro-rate you.
