Try taking taking the battery out of the phone and putting it back in.

Wiggle the cord between the charger, the wall wart/transformer, and the phone in several places. Because the wire is less than 24 gauge, you may have a break in the cord... if this is the case, try to position the cord into a "happy place" and the charging will begin... if this does not work, try a different charger, the cord may be totally severed. You can ask to try this at any NEXTEL retail store (NRS). If the NRS's charger works, you need a new charger.
Software problems... sometimes you might find a message on the screen that says "Incompatible Charger"... this comes up mostly when the contacts have crud on the bottom of the phone or you do not have the plug firmly into place. It can also be a result of you wiggling the charger plug to get in into the base. If the crud is the problem, power down the phone, remove the battery, and clean the contact on bottom with denatured alcohol and a toothbrush.
The last thing would be bad software. Make sure your unit is upgraded to the latest software version through NEXTEL.com or a NRS.
