Enable Battery Saving Mode:
- Open the apps drawer
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to Device and tap Battery
- Tap Menu and enable Battery saver
Lower the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Drag the brightness slider towards the left side of the screen to decrease luminosity
- Open Settings and scroll to Device
- Tap Display
- Optionally, enable or disable Adaptive brightness
- For timeout options, tap Sleep and select a lower timeout value such as 15 seconds
Disable Unused Connectivity Options:
NOTE: By disabling the phones connectivity features when unused, including Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Hotspot, and GPS, you might improve battery life in the long run. To do this:
- On the home screen, swipe the Status bar down using two fingers
- Tap the Wi-Fi, Location and Bluetooth quick toggles to disable these features
- For GPS options, launch Settings
- Tap Location > Mode and select Battery saving
- To disable Wi-Fi Hotspot, return to Settings
- Then, tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Next, tap Tethering & mobile hotspot and disable the option
Use 2G Networks Temporarily:
NOTE: In case your phone runs low on battery and you dont have quick access to a wall socket or battery bank, you can conserve battery life until the next recharge by temporarily switching to a 2G network.
- Open Settings
- Tap More under Wireless & Networks
- Tap Mobile networks > Preferred network type
- Enable 2G
Change Settings to Reduce Sync:
NOTE: By changing your apps/accounts sync settings to reduce sync, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Open Settings
- Scroll to Personal
- Tap Accounts and select the desired account
- Change the available sync settings to reduce sync
Minimize Third Party App Usage:
NOTE: Certain third party apps perform regular background processes and can potentially affect battery life even when not in use. By disabling or removing unused third party apps from the phone, you can improve battery life in the long run.
- Launch Settings and scroll to device
- Tap Apps
- Make sure All apps is selected in the drop-down menu at the top
- Select the desired app and tap Force Stop to disable it
- To remove the app from the phone, tap Uninstall
NOTE: Another way to remove an app from the device is to drag the apps shortcut from the apps drawer and drop it over the Uninstall section at the top of the home screen (visible only when dragging an app shortcut)
Keep the OS Up To Date:
NOTE: OS updates can include battery life improvements, and thus its recommended to keep the OS updated at all times. To check if new updates are available for download:
- Launch Settings
- Scroll to and tap About phone
- Tap System updates
- Verify if a new update is available. If applicable, follow the on-screen prompts to download and apply the update (NOTE: the update process will require at least one reboot)
