Some new info was leaked about the new BlackBerry 8800 today in the form of a spec sheet. It reports:

    • Bluetooth 2.0, speakerphone
    • Landscape QVGA display
    • 64MB of ROM
    • microSD expansion

Interesting...do you think it will still have the trackball issue that the pearl has, if you don't lock it...it will go nuts? Who do you think the carrier will be?

Maybe it's something you get used to, but the several times I've played with a Pearl I've been really unimpressed with the trackball operation. I hope the 8800 has some different type of system.

Obviously, this spec sheet is incorrect (no wifi, no camera). I'll tell you I went directly from the Pearl to the 8800 -- and while I loved the trackball on the Pearl, the trackball on the 8800 feels better. More clicky, and more ... definite. Hard to quantify.

That's good news. In my opinion, that's what they need to do to improve the Pearl. The Pearl's trackball feels sloppy to me. A more clicky, definite trackball feel would improve the user experience with the Pearl.
