I have a friend that recently gave me a blackberry 7290 on cingular/at&t network. she said that she couldn't get it working for her, and said if i could get it working for me then i could keep it. the phone recognizes my SIM card but i don't have network coverage(but i have a full signal on the phone i'm currently using). I went to AT&T today and the guy said that i had to get the whole Blackberry package to get a network. but he looked like he really didn't know what he was talking about. is there a way to get a network on the phone without having to pay $30 extra a month. i really don't need all the blackberry stuff i just want it to make and receive calls and text messages. there's really no point in paying for something that i don't need or want.

Re: Help!!!!!
Contact customer service.
It sounds like a high level tech issue, which needs to be addressed.
Starting very shortly, AT&T will require all Blackberry and PDA devices (launched after a specific date) to maintain a data package of $30 or more in order to maintain service. This hasn't went into effect yet, so either way...your phone should be fine.
AT&T Technical Support can help you more than I am able to.

Re: Help!!!!!
I guess I don't understand how it's going to help in college without being able to use all the functions the phone has, and in order to use all the function's, you are going to have to have a data package. You can't use the email capabilities, nor able to send any office word, excel, etc. files to it. Any other function the phone has that you would like to use besides using it to call and receive calls will require the Internet or data to send/receive, so, what would be so great about having the phone with all the capabilities incapacitated?
