I'm sure a lot of you probably already heard of this site, but I can vouch that it works really well. I just load up an MP3 (or any other sound source) and it makes a perfect ringer for my phone and it comes with upload space too.

Yes I paid the $30 anual fee, but it was worth it, now I can make ringers out of anything and the site is pretty quick.

If by "good little program" you mean "VoiceTones Studio4" -

this software does NOT convert mp3 to midi.

It converts mp3 (or other sound files) to AMR, a format commonly used for VoiceNotes or whatever you'd like to call them.

These tones will only work IF your phone supports AMR-format (be it NB-AMR or WB-AMR) as ringtones. Many phones can play these tones, but don't let you use them as ringers. (Moto Vxxx, many Siemens models etc.)

There's a free tool for converting mp3/wav to AMR as well:

hes right, it is qualcomm files, which is ususally for sprint phones, and mnaybe verizon (cent say for sure on them), for samsung phones the file format is mmf for voice ringers, and there are different programs needed to do that.

My statements and views are exactly that, my own, they do not reflect the views or statements from T-Mobile or any company i talk about.

    ----T-Mobile - Blackberry - Ringtone - AT&T - Cingular - Nokia EX-Mod ----

    My sites -
MMF Ringtones (phone browser only) - tagtag.com/kinjutsu - no longer updated, Still active!
MP3 Ringtones (with Tooldef6) - geocities.com/dj_mystik2001Down indefinitely I need to get back into my CPF flow again before i relaunch it!

My point, which you seem to have missed, is -

It does NOT convert mp3 to a recognizable midi-tone.

    It is simply NOT POSSIBLE.

BUT, midis were what the conversation above was all about. Not some other format, but midi tones as requested in this forum.

And these cannot be converted from mp3. Not with this programm, not with any other tool.

    End of story.

The files used for e.g. Nokia MUST be AMR (NB or WB), because according to Nokia, many phones only support AMR and midi. (Some handle wav/mp3 directly, many are "midi only".)

I am aware of the fact that Samsung phones (an others, such as some Siemens phones) use wav-based smaf for realtones. There's freeware tools for this, though. E.g. PSMPlayer or a tool provided by Yamaha.
No need to buy some expensive program.

The same goes for mp3 or wav-tones. Some phones use mfm (no typo). There's probably many more formats.

But that is very much beside the point.

This program still requires that your phone supports a realtone-format, numerous as they may be.

I did NOT say this program converts to AMR only.

I said, for many phones, it converts mp3 to AMR.

I also said that it does NOT convert mp3 to (recognizable) midi. There is tools claiming to be able to do that, but the results are simply garbage. See the link above.

Ergo, I am not "completely wrong".
It is you who entirely missed the point.

LOL .. no need to get pissy .. you WERE in fact flat dead wrong about what the program did. This is undeniable. I never said the program made MIDIs.

I simply said I found a great program to make ringtones, and that is in fact what it does and it does it well.

The user manual I got has a section on making MIDI files, but since I didn't need to do that I never read it ... but it would seem that this program allows you to do that as well since the instructions are in there.
