Cansomeone plese explain how to assign a ringtone to incoming message alert?
The phone is a Samsung Galaxy Y

A text message? go to settings > sound settings > Notification ringtone (it should be something very similar on the galaxy y) or when in the text messaging application, hit the menu button and there should be something for notification settings there as well.
