Enabling and Customizing Battery Saving Mode:

  1. While viewing a home screen, press the "Menu" button
  2. Tap "Settings" and go to the "My device" tab
  3. Press the switch associated with "Power saving mode" and set it to "ON"
  4. Tap "Power saving mode"
  5. To customize how saving mode works, check or clear the check boxes associated with "CPU power saving", "Screen power saving" and / or "Turn off haptic feedback"
  6. To learn more about this feature, tap "Learn about Power saving mode"

Adjusting the Screen Brightness and Timeout Duration:

  1. Press the "Menu" button while on a home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Go to the "My device" tab
  4. Tap "Display" > "Brightness"
  5. Clear the check box associated with "Automatic brightness"
  6. Drag the slider to a lower but still readable level and tap "OK"
  7. Tap "Screen timeout" and select a lower value, like "15 seconds"

Switching from a Live Wallpaper:

  1. Some live wallpapers (especially if they're using a lot of graphics resources) tend to hit the battery quite hard. As such, it's always advised to use a "static" wallpaper if you wish to conserve battery life.
  2. Press the "Menu" button while on a home screen
  3. Tap "Set wallpaper" and select "Home screen"
  4. Select either "Gallery" or "Wallpaper"
  5. Go through the images and select the one that you want to set. Then tap "Set wallpaper", or if you're browsing the gallery, drag / resize / crop the image and tap "Done"

Disabling Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot and GPS:

When not in use, it's always recommended that you disable all connectivity features on your device, as they're usually the most battery demanding.

  1. Press the "Menu" button while on a home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Tap the "Connections" tab
  4. Press "More networks" > "Tethering & Mobile HotSpot"
  5. Tap the switch associated with Mobile HotSpot and set it to "OFF"
  6. Return to the home screen and drag the "Notification" bar down
  7. Tap the switches associated with "Wi-Fi", "Bluetooth" and "GPS", and set them to "OFF". (NOTE: a grayed out switch means the feature is disabled)

Changing the Application Sync Settings:

  1. From any home screen, press "Menu"
  2. Tap "Settings" and access the "Accounts" tab
  3. Under "My accounts", select an account type, such as "Google"
  4. You can adjust the sync settings for the account type
  5. To access more sync options, tap your "user name" or "email address" located at the top of the screen
  6. Mark or clear the check boxes for each applicable category, to disable or enable sync
  7. Tap a category to adjust the interval time of syncing, for each applicable category

Minimizing Use of Third Party Apps:

  1. Press "Menu" while on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" and access the "More" tab
  3. Tap "Application manager"
  4. Swipe to the "Downloaded" screen
  5. Select the desired application and tap "Disable". Optionally, you can tap "Uninstall" to completely remove the app
  6. Tap "OK"

NOTE: only third party applications can be uninstalled.

Disabling Background Data:

  1. Press "Menu" from any of the home screens
  2. Tap "Settings" and go to "Connections"
  3. Tap "Data usage"
  4. Press "Menu" and mark the check box next to "Restrict background data"

Toggling from 4G to 2G Connectivity:

  1. Press "Menu" from the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings" > "Connections"
  3. Tap "More networks" > "Mobile networks" > "Network mode"
  4. To switch to 2G, tap "GSM only"
  5. To toggle back to 4G, tap "LTE / GSM / WCDMA (auto connect)" or "GSM / WCMA (auto connect)"

Updating to the Most Recent Firmware Available:

NOTE: following the steps below can increase your handset's battery life only if Samsung has released a new software update that addresses potential battery life issues. Otherwise, performing this guide will not give any results.

  1. Press "Menu" while on a home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Touch the "More" tab
  4. Tap "About device" > "Software update"
  5. If a new firmware is available, follow the on-screen instructions to download and apply it
