Audio File Transfer
Transferring Audio Files from a Windows Computer:
- Use the USB cable to connect your phone to the computer
- On the SGSIII Slim, swipe the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device"
- Mark the "Media device (MTP)" check box
- In the AutoPlay window on the PC, click "Open device to view files using Windows Explorer"
- Open a new Windows Explorer window and navigate to where the desired files are located on your computer
- Copy the audio files, and paste them on your phone's memory
- Once the transfer is complete, click the "Safely Remove Mass Storage Device" icon from the system tray
- Safely disconnect your smartphone from the computer
Transferring Audio Files from a Mac Computer:
NOTE: skip the first two steps if you already have Kies installed on your Mac
- Open the Internet browser on the Mac and visit SAMSUNG KIES
- On the webpage, click "Download for Mac OS" and follow the on-screen instructions to install Kies on your computer
- Establish a USB connection between your smartphone and computer
- On the SGSIII Slim, drag the "Status" bar down and tap "Connected as a media device" > "Media device (MTP)"
- Open Kies on the computer
- In Kies, click the "Folder" icon next to "Internal memory" or "External memory", and navigate to the location where you want to add the music files
- On the computer, navigate to where the desired audio files are located
- Drag the files and drop them in Kies
- After the transfer is complete, safely disconnect your handset
Making Transferred Audio Files Ready for Ringtones / Notifications
Adding Audio Files to the Ringtone List:
- From the home screen, press the "Menu" button
- Tap "Settings" > "My device"
- Tap "Sound" > "Ringtones"
- Tap "Add" and select either "Sound picker" or "Choose music track"
- Press "Always" or "Just once"
- Select the desired audio file and tap "OK"
Adding Audio Files to the Notification List:
- Tap the "Apps" icon located on the home screen
- Tap "My files" > "All files"
- Locate the desired audio files
- Tap and hold a file and tap "Copy"
- Tap "Device storage" and open the "Notifications" folder
- Tap "Paste here"
Personalizing Ringtones and Notification Sounds
Changing the Ringtone for One Contact:
NOTE: you can't assign custom ringtones to contacts located on the phone's internal storage or the SIM card
- Tap the "Contacts" icon located on the home screen
- Select the desired contact
- Tap the "Edit" icon depicting a pencil
- Touch "Ringtone"
- Select the desired ringtone and tap "OK"
- Tap "Save" to assign the ringtone and exist edit mode
Changing the Ringtone for All Calls:
- Press the "Menu" key while on the home screen
- Tap "Settings"
- Access the "My device" tab
- Tap "Sound" > "Ringtones"
- Select the desired ringtone and tap "OK"
Changing the Notification Sound:
- From any home screen, press the "Menu" key
- Tap "Settings" and access "My device"
- Tap "Sound" > "Notifications"
- Select the desired notification sound and tap "OK" to assign it
