Enabling Power Saving Mode:

  1. Tap the "Apps" icon located on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Under "System", tap "Power saving"
  4. Tap "Power saving mode" and set the switch to "ON"
  5. Set the various Power saving mode options such as "Block background data", "Restrict performance" etc. as you desire

Enabling Ultra Power Saving Mode:

  1. From the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Scroll to "System"
  4. Tap "Power saving mode" > "Ultra Power saving mode"
  5. Set the "Ultra Power saving mode" switch to "ON"
  6. Choose whether you wish to set the Ultra Power saving mode for the "Phone", "Messages" and "Internet" apps
  7. To add more options, tap the "+" button

Lowering the Screen Brightness and Adjusting the Timeout Duration:

  1. Tap "Apps" while viewing a home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Under "Quick Settings", tap "Display"
  4. Tap "Brightness" and clear the "Automatic brightness" check box if necessary
  5. Drag the slider to the left to decrease the brightness manually
  6. Tap "OK"
  7. Tap "Screen timeout" and select a lower value

Disabling Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi Hotspot:

  1. Open the apps drawer
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Scroll to "Network Connections" and tap "Tethering & Mobile Hotspot"
  4. Tap the "Mobile Hotspot" switch and set it to "Off"
  5. Return to the home screen and drag the "Status" bar down
  6. Tap the icons associated with "Wi-Fi", "Location" and "Bluetooth" to disable these features

NOTE: when the icons are removed of color, the feature is disabled

Changing the Sync Settings for Applications:

  1. Tap "Apps" while viewing the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Under "User and Backup", tap "Accounts"
  4. Go to the "Accounts" tab
  5. Select an account type, such as "Google"
  6. Tap to adjust the sync settings for the account type. Generally, you can mark or clear check boxes associated with syncing options
  7. To adjust more sync settings, tap your "email address" or "user name"

Disabling Background Data:

  1. Launch the apps drawer and go to the "Settings" menu
  2. Tap "Data usage" under "Network Connections"
  3. Press the "Menu" key
  4. Mark the "Restrict background data" check box

Minimizing the Use of Third Party Apps:

NOTE: It's recommended that you disable or uninstall applications that you don't use. Although you may not run an app, it can still have an impact on your phone's battery performance, as it can run processes in the background.

  1. Launch the apps drawer
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Scroll to "Applications" and tap "Application manager"
  4. Access the "Downloaded" tab
  5. Select an app and tap "Disable"
  6. To completely remove the app, tap "Uninstall" instead

Switching from 4G to 2G Connectivity:

  1. From the home screen, tap "Apps"
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Under "Network Connections" tap "More networks"
  4. Tap "Mobile networks" > "Network mode"
  5. To restrict your phone's connection to 2G, tap "GSM only"
  6. To return to 4G/LTE connectivity, select "LTE/WCDMA/GSM (auto connect)" or "WCDMA/GSM (auto connect)"

Updating to the Latest Software Version:

NOTE: oftentimes smartphone manufacturers launch new software updates that aim at improving battery life or fixing battery issues. As such, it's recommended that you keep your smartphone up to date. Keep in mind that if no update is available, completing the guide below will have no effect on your phone's battery life.

  1. Tap "Apps" while on the home screen
  2. Tap "Settings"
  3. Under "System", tap "About device"
  4. Tap "Software update"
  5. If an update is available, follow any additional prompts to download and install it
